Toughest games outside of the division are home too. Toughest non division road game is Washington. Saints, Giants, Cowboys, Ravens and Bengals come to Chicago.

Bears have officially terminated the contract of Johnny Knox. Not surprising, but I was holding out hope he could recover.

I feel for the guy. He provided a lot of fun memories (some not so fun with his breaking off a route too soon allowing interception schtick). Hopefully the guy has a decent degree to fall back on.

Johnny Knox retired from the NFL.

Knox told Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times that he has to face the reality that he still has trouble walking — and isn’t even close to being able to run with the speed of an NFL wide receiver — more than 13 months after suffering a devastating back injury. As a result, Knox said, he is trying to make peace with the fact that he will never play football again.

“As an athlete, you don’t want to give up, you want to keep on fighting. That’s how I’ve always been,” Knox said. “But it’s been on my heart for a while. I know how my body feels, and I know I’m not going to be the same and perform at the ability that I used to. So I’m moving on and going forward.”

“I was centimeters away from being paralyzed, so just sitting here and talking, I’m appreciative of that,” Knox said. “Just the hard work that I had to put in. Just to be able to stay in and do everything in my daily life that I used to do.”

Knox said he has been down at times, but he’ll remain an upbeat person.

“My whole life, I’ve always been positive, and people ask me, ‘Man, why are you so positive?’ But I know things will work out for the best,” Knox said.

"There's no doubt (it was hard to leave)," Marinelli said, according to Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "But my No. 1 relationship is with Lovie Smith. Yeah, he's probably one of my best friends in life, and I believe in him and I went there because of him and it's not the right place for me without him."

Well, bye.

Haven't heard anything on the possibility of Henry Melton being franchised, but Feb. 18 is the starting date for the period to name a franchise player. The deadline is March 4th to have used that tag or lose the ability to.

Ryan Clady- being franchised by the Broncos

Jared Cook- looks like he's being franchised by the Titans (surprise move, IMO)

i don't think we can franchise melton and still make a run at a FA LT that would be worth having.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they could work out something after cutting/restructuring a few people (Davis, Hester, Toeina, Garza, Tillman, Peppers are all major candidates to be cut or restructured to save several million). But franchising Melton also gives the Bears exclusive negotiation to get a long-term deal done before training camp, ala Forte last year. Or it gives them two #1 picks if someone wants him bad enough (Dallas).

NFL network is showing a bears vs. packers game from the '85 season right now.

Excellent, thank you.

Walter Payton was such a treat to watch.

Like Jake Long. Any word on whether Miami is going to sign/franchise him? If it means letting Melton go, I say good bye.

Swapping Melton for Long would be a net loss for the team.
