ABTY on Bourn and some other stuff tonight:

Haha, so info guy, anything new on say... Michael Bourn? Are we still talking to him?

Yes.

Bourn apparently is impressed by the moves the team has made thus far and also with the pitch the FO has laid out...

Soriano market starting to pick up as more and more teams are starting to get the cold shoulder from Ross and Swisher as they near their decisions... DeJesus has been brought up multiple times as well... Team has talked with Delmon Young, Ryan Raburn and Ben Francisco about the possibility of a one year deal... Wouldn't be shocked if both DeJesus and Soriano were dealt with one of the aforementioned coming in to play LF until BJax is deemed ready...

Marlin Bystro on Bourn tonight:

With the Jackson signing I'm going to upgrade the Cubs from "darkhorse" to "in the mix" for Bourn.

No they are in the mix for Bourn. I just didn't believe it until I saw some other evidence of activity.

That's quite a hodgepodge of outfield "talent." And as far as Raburn is concerned, I'm using that term VERY generously.

Delmon Young is still only 26, and had a pretty good year just a couple season ago. The other 2 guys are both 5 years older and have never been any good. Delmon would be interesting in the sense that he could make up some of the power lost from Soriano. Not an ideal target, but I'd be OK with him if the Cubs were able to get some more power/production out of 3B somehow.

Isn't Delmon hurt right now? Thought I read he may not be ready for the start of the season, but couldn't find it when I ran a search.

completely unrelated to the off season, but I'd just like to say how thankful I am for this board. If I have to explain to one more person on another board what FIP,xFIP,SIERA etc are and why it's ridiculous to use W/L and ERA when judging the Edwin signing a puppy is getting kicked.

I'm not clear on the new rules, but would we have to give up a draft pick if we signed Bourn?

Swisher would help but it would have to be a short deal and I think at his age he's hoping for as long as possible. Not sure at 35 he's a regular contributor.

Looking at what's out there, what about taking a flyer on polanco? Might go for a one year deal. He was hurt and had his first down year . he isn't the big bat that we might need but he is right handed, plays good defense, and usually has an ob% around .330 which is step up for us. If at a small cost and 1 year, would have more possibility of working out as opposed to just hoping for stewart to be healthy AND return to form of 4-5 years ago.

Barring a trade, you only have Wiggintin and Rolen out there as RHer's at 3b.

Polanco signed a 1-year deal with Miami already.

Wiggington signed with the Cards and Rolen is leaning towards retirement.

My point was that there really weren't any RH options out there because those two shouldn't be thought of as options. Of course now that Wiggintin is with the cards he'll have a rebirth...

I don't see where there is anything about delmon young that would help this team. The best value he has is his name recognition. His best year wasn't great (low 800's ops) and has been in 600's and low 700's since. Bad OB%, and his power stats are not what you would think. Add in he is such a bad fielder that they would rather have him DH and play Cabrera at 3rd...

I know he's way to expensive and too old, but Nick Swisher would be the perfect fit for this team.

Perfect? As what, a RF?

RF, middle of the order power bat, sub for Rizzo at 1B, great OBP.

That's going to leave a really sketchy OF defense.

Our OF isn't exactly cavernous, though. Not that I'm necessarily advocating for Swisher, but couldn't you get away with him in RF and Jackson in CF?

I've always thought that, due to Wrigley, the Cubs should have their best OF defender in RF. That's why I'm not that excited with getting CFers whose main value comes from defense.

I don't think seeing much of Jackson is a given at all. And if the plan really is to play DeJesus in CF, I think defense becomes a real issue if you have Swisher in RF.

Soriano/DeJesus/Swisher would not be good.
