If nothing else, Theo a history of running a covert operation. If this trade isn't to be, it would mark the 3rd major leak of a "done deal" in the past 6 months.

Am I forgetting one? Dempster and this one. What else?

Soler Part 1. Also, multiple Garza trades.

I'm as in favor of our FO as anyone here, but the bottom line is we've now had 2 well publicized deals fall through extremely recently. Not even saying it's our fault. Dempsters was NOT for sure, this one likely had to do with meds. But, they both happened and I can see where teams could get cold feet over a deal fallingvthrough with us. I hope not, but it is possible.

Two deals that looked great for the Cubs, too. With as secretive as the team is with the local media, I wonder why they can't keep stuff quiet during deals.

I absolutely know I'm jumping the gun here. I'm just disappointed. But I do and will continue to trust in Theo obviously.

I highly doubt this had anything to do with anyone keeping things "quiet."

how the [expletive] is NG winning this thread right now? i must be more drunk than i thought

As much as I hate to admit it, N&G wins quite a few threads. When he perfectly straddles the line between critic and douchebag, he can be entertaining in threads like this.

This is so cubs. Change the owner, the gm, the vp. Same bs lack of professionalism. what a joke.

What lack of professionalism are you talking about? We still don't even know what happened.

You knew this was too good to be true. The Cubs will never, ever fleece a team in a deal.

Cashner for Rizzo is looking pretty good right now.

Bobby Hill and parts foe ARam and Lofton was a pretty good one, too. As was Choi for Lee.

And I'm not sure I would have called this a fleecing, either. It was potentially damaged goods for potentially damaged goods, both expensive with only one year left on their contracts. It would have been a good gamble, but a pretty far [expletive] cry from a "fleecing".

Pretty much. Sucks thinking you're going to get a shiny new toy and it doesn't happen, but we've known all along that this wasn't the direction this train was headed. Still would have been an amazing return for Marmol.

What does that even mean? What direction?

Why not comment on the failed the trade instead of taking shots at other posters?

Because most of your comments are bigger fails than the trade.

Real world interpretation: The Cubs and Angels were working on a possible Marmol for Haren swap. Before getting too involved in the particulars the Cubs approached Marmol to see if he might be willing to waive his NTC. Later, the deal fell apart at some point during negotiating money and extra pieces, with medical concerns also being a possible hurdle.

Internet interpretation: The Cubs and Angels agreed to a Marmol for Haren straight up deal. Marmol waived his NTC and everything. Then the Cubs backed out for no good reason and the Angels hate Theo now.

Yeah, the internet interpretation should have more exclamation points, grammar errors, and misspellings - but I just can't bring myself to do it.

It's also possible the trade never was actually completely fleshed out and could have been just another trade that fell apart. We would have been none the wiser if not for Marmol.

Lack of professionalism? Hmm Joe Ricketts spouting off just while the stadium deal was getting rolling, announcing the dempster trade with the braves before officially notifying him and missing out on a top notch prospect, and here announcing this trade on the cubs website and the trade confirmed by marmol only to pull the deal at the last minute (according to ken rosenthal). Its bad enough that we got out bid by the A's on cespedes, made a half-***ed attempt at darvish, and failed to/ waited to long to trade Garza before he got hurt. There has been way too many blunders in the last year, its embarrassing.

Yeah, that's how I see the real world interpretation too.

Yeah, that's how a rational, competent human being would see the real world interpretation too.
