Whatever, this doesn't matter. I don't really even care. But obviously both Noah's injury and his playing on a horribly sprained ankle can both be negative things. Maybe they should have played Rose on his torn ACL while they were at it. We would have been contenders again.

And yeah, the score changed by 2 when he was in the game, but they did go up by 13 on the first possession (he did hit the shot). Then, I believe the 76ers got an offensive rebound over him and the putback... and the next possession they scored on him again. The lead was cut to 9 and the momentum clearly changed. The 76ers had a bounce to their step and the crowd was getting back into it.

 

The main point was just that it is a little more complicated than: Bulls lost to 76ers, so Bulls must be worse than 76ers.

Since Belinelli has played in three of the NBAs deepest, darkest black holes, does anyone care to tell me what kind of player he is? I see he can shoot the three. Can he defend? Like, at all?

He isnt a defender at all, but he has enough physical talent that Thibs should be able to make him a good system defender if he is willing.

Even with Rose, this team would be much worse next year. They have severely downgraded their bench, very disappointing offseason.

He replaces Korver for much cheaper. He can stroke the 3 near 40% and is a capable defender. In Thib's system, he'll be just fine. I really like the signing. I'm okay with the Nazr Mohammed (not yet official) signing as well. I'm most excited about it because it confirms we won't be matching Asik.

 

I'm fine with what the Bulls are doing this offseason. Hinrich and Belinelli replace Watson and Korver for cheaper. Butler takes Brewer's minutes. Taj will pick up additional minutes with Asik gone and Nazr will get some run against bigger teams. We're essentially the same team as last year. We'll probably finish around 3rd or 4th in the East, win a round or 2, and get a fully healthy team back for 2013. Maybe we get lucky and the Heat run into an injury or 2, Rose comes back close to himself, and we make a deeper run in the playoffs. You essentially replaced expensive role players with their cheaper equivalents that expire in time to make some moves in 2014. It would have been nice to move Rip and pick up Mayo, but that just wasn't an option.

I bitched about the Dwight [expletive], but they're going to create some caproom for 2014 one way or another anyway. Which is all I care about at this point.

Severely? Brewer was garbage for a majority of the season. Belinelli is the same player as Korver. Watson and Kirk give you about the same value (Watson scores more, Kirk facilitates the offense better and plays better defense). The downgrade from Asik to Gibson/Nazr is negligible. As great as Asik's defense was, his offense was even worse. You give the majority of Asik's 14 MPG to Taj and you're fine.

The only big loss given who we got to replace him is Asik. It immediately gets rid of our best advantage besides Rose which is 2 lockdown defensive bigs coming off our bench. I think that's a huge loss. I don't mind the Bellineli signing. I don't think he's gonna give us the spacing we got with Korver out there but he will be able to do a little more overall than Korver. Butler instead and Brewer is a downgrade next year i think but long term it's the right move. Hinrich for Watson is a near wash although they do similar things.

 

Overall the bench will be worse and not as game changing as it was last year. But I don't think it's gonna lose us games either.

So today there are reports that Derrick will probably not be back until March and that we signed Belinelli and a D-Leaguer.

 

Is GarPax Thibs-proofing this roster? Get his extension cheap after a down year and give him a roster that not even Thibs, with his incredible bag of coach 'em up tricks, can avoid the lottery with?

 

I doubt it, but it's not crazy talk at this point.

Yeah, it's clear they are punting on this core other than Derrick, but I'm wondering if they're trying to get in the lottery and they believe like I do, that Thibs can drag a bunch of bums to the bottom of the top 8 so they're intentionally signing bums who are notoriously soft on defense and poor shot selection/timing.

Unless we're bribing Stern into fixing the lottery for us I don't really see this as a concerted effort to miss the playoffs. We'll be mediocre but not top of the lottery bad.
