How about a sign and trade with Asik/Scola? Seems like a better deal than matching Asik. Probably a salary cap issue though?

Houston wants to free up enough space where they can absorb two max contracts.

Ok, but if they're gonna take on Asik anyway, by doing a sign and trade with us, they can get rid of Scola without burning the amnesty.

They haven't officially signed Omer to an offer sheet yet. I think they're waiting to see what happens with the Howard situation before moving on to the RFA's.

Also, I think Scola is the only player that the Rockets can really amnesty. I think he is their only player that is guaranteed money in 2013-2014. Doesn't make sense for them to amnesty anybody else.

Can the Rockets decide not to sign Asik to an offer sheet at this point?

Technically yes. Realistically, probably not. They'd be damaging their ability to negotiate this kind of thing in the future with players and agents.

Also, the Rockets will amnesty Luis Scola with 3 years $21 million left on his deal.

Scola would give us an almost exact duplicate of Carlos Boozer. The meat heads would be outraged. I wouldn't be thrilled either personally as there's no way to get optimal production out of having both of them on the same roster.

The one thing that could throw a kink in the plans is Omer Asik.

The Rockets have committed to a four-year, $25 million offer sheet to Asik, one that has not yet been given him but will be soon. (To say they would extend and offer then not would have huge repercussions with agents who don’t want to deal with a team that won’t keep its word.) The Rockets are expected to sign Jeremy Lin to an offer sheet Friday, which the Knicks will match over the weekend.

Then they will do the Asik sheet, and the Bulls may or may not match. Coach Tom Thibodeau has pushed to keep him and the entire roster together. The Bulls are high on young Asik. But owner Jerry Reinsdorf doesn’t want to be a regular tax payer and next summer they will have to extend or reach a new deal with Taj Gibson. And it’s a no brainer, if you have to choose between Asik and Gibson, Taj wins. So the Bulls could let Asik go to Chicago.

But clearly the Rockets don’t really want him anymore. They have set their targets on Dwight Howard and are doing everything they can to make an offer the Magic will take.

Clearly they meant the Bulls could let Asik go to Houston. I'm amused that the Rockets might've shot themselves in the foot a bit here.

Didn't see this posted, but it appears the Bulls have lowballed Thibs

And although peers such as Oklahoma City head coach Scott Brooks, who played for Thibodeau and didn't have an extension after the Thunder's NBA Finals appearance, have received deals, the Bulls coach, who was offered and rejected a contract deemed to be under his market value, according to an individual with knowledge of the negotiations, publicly is unconcerned about the unresolved issue.

The cheapness of Reinsdorf never ceases to amaze me.....

Haha and people were railing on me for taking shots at the conservative bulls management and ownership...

That's not why people were and continue to rail on you...

Kind of frustrating that Houston nor the Bulls now want Omer at that cost. Hopefully that gives the Bulls ammo to hammer out a trade.

It's the "all or nothing" approach of meatballism; if someone disagrees with the meatball it must be because they hold the opposite extreme opinion of the meatball's extreme opinion.

Korver traded to Atlanta. May be part of S&T with Hinrich. For [expletive] sake, we better get something for him.

Pending passed physical, Bulls have traded Kyle Korver to Atlanta. Could be sign-and-trade w/Hinrich. Details soon at http://chicagotribune.com.

I want a TPE or a future 1st.

If its for Hinrich then you can use the MMLE on someone else.

I know. But getting either of what I mentioned actually could contribute to something more meaningful than filling out your bench in a non championship season.

Why would anyone give up a 1st round pick for Kyle Korver?

well, becauae they're dumb, to be honest. But someone gave us a 1st that's going to wind up a lottery pick for Tyrus, so I don't think it's a totally ridiculous request.

The Korver trade is via Minnesota into Atlanta's traded player exception, meaning Bulls get 2nd-round pick from Minny and save $500K.
