Any trade idea for Howard no idea hinges more on Howard's opinions as opposed to what Orlando actually wants. He just doesn't want to be here.

Yeah, I know. I would be willing to take him, probably gives you a better shot this season, if Rose comes back, then take my chances he stays. Worst case scenario is he leaves and you're probably not much more than a .500ish team for a year, then it's 2014 anyway. And you've got the same situation, minus the option of keeping or trading Noah.

I don't think there's even a chance; if they did it it would basically be with the idea he's only here a year. If Rose was healthy I'd be all for that.

The question becomes where would he go after the year. The Nets likely won't have the cap room for Howard unless they make trades (right now the 3 of Johnson, Williams, and Wallace will make 48 million or so next year by themselves). The Lakers, Heat, Knicks will all have too much money committed. As much as he may dislike Chicago, what other city would he be excited about in order to turn down the extra money? Howard can kick and scream all he wants, but unless he gets what he wants this summer he's rapidly running out of options.

Depends on what his priority is; I know money usually trumps all, but he's really sticking to this crybaby garbage in terms of how few places he wants to play. Maybe he genuinely can't stand it here.

I do remember him mumbling about the coldness in February but, last time I checked Brooklyn isn't a tropical paradise in February. He's the embodiment of what everyone dislikes about the NBA, a fickle, extremely self-centered [expletive].

It wasn't a consensus #1 draft.

maybe it wasn't during the ncaa tournament, but by draft time rose was definitely the consensus #1.

No it wasn't. I remember on draft night, the front page of ESPN.com had a Bulls logo with a picture of Rose and Beasley in the background.

I seem to remember it being 95% Rose 5% Beasley on draft night. ESPN might have put that up there but if anything they were trying to bring some drama. Immediately after winning the lottery it was maybe 55% Rose but as stories came out about the Rose and Beasley workouts with the Bulls, more and more people were convinced or tipped off that Rose was their man. I recall having absolutely no doubt who the Bulls were picking as it was being announced.

People being convinced or tipped off that the Bulls were going to take him is not the same thing as a consensus #1. That's basically people hearing or guessing at the Bulls decision before they made it. There was still plenty of debate, especially nationally, as to who was the better player and who should be the #1 pick.

I do think that I would root for Miami over whatever team Howard ends up with at this point.

I want to agree with this, but I'm really conflicted. I'm still a big Deron Williams fan.

Chris Sheridan is saying that he's hearing the Bulls will match Asik. In fact he says every RFA offer sheet signed will be matched except Landry Fields.

That would piss me off.

You and cubbievirus both. You guys should hang out with Rosenbloom.

Wait, you think THAT's a good move? Go re-read what I've said in this thread. Taj is much more important to this team than Asik and having the 3rd year, backloaded as hell on our books for 2014 makes zero sense at all. Seriously, if you think Asik on THAT contract makes sense, you haven't thought very hard at all.

So, the possibility of having Asik at 15 mill the final year of that deal, instead of the possibility of landing a max conteact type guy in FA, doesn't piss you off? It's a bad idea, no matter how you try to spin it.

Gah, just hit the wrong thing and deleted my post.

Essentially though, I don't necessarily think it prohibits re-signing Taj. Deng's contract will be up by the time Asik's big year comes around, and I'm not sure what the Bulls intend to do there. Also, that will be the last year of Boozer's deal, and he'll surely be amnestied.

I wouldn't match Asik, but I don't necessarily think it's total disaster. I sure do hope that a non-lockout offseason can help Omer's offense.

again, max contract guys that are worth having are not going to be coming to the midwest. they go west, east, or south.

But re-signing Omer and Taj might prohibit signing a 2014 FA.

True, it'd probably push a big FA back to 2015, unless there's a trade at some point.

As a guy who's never lived in the midwest, I see the point about FA going elsewhere. However, Chicago is the 3rd biggest market in the country and I can't see everyone always staying away, just because it's in the middle of the country, cold, etc. That said, there's probably going to have to be a definitive change in Rose, to where he's reaching out to these guys, instead of staying silent. Will he do that? No clue. If it's not the FA route, we've got to find a way to get a Kevin Love thru trade.

KC says he's heard it's likely Korver is getting dealt to Minnesota.

Lots of unknowns, but if Rose comes back midseason and we have a good year health-wise, what are we/ A 50ish win team? Maybe have 1st round HCA. I think I'd want a pick for Korver, over a return of players.
