Tim Hardaway, who has come back from an ACL injury himself, had some thoughts on Rose over this next 7-8 months:

‘‘He can only do three things,’’ said former NBA point guard Tim Hardaway, who missed the 1993-94 season after suffering a similar injury. ‘‘He can dribble — not run and dribble, just dribble walking up and down the court; he can shoot a bunch of free throws; and he can shoot a bunch of set shots like he’s playing
H-O-R-S-E every day, all day.

‘‘But that’s going to make him better. If you shoot 1,000 jump shots a day, 1,000 free throws a day, you’re going to get better. That made my shot better. It
really made my jump shot and free-throw percentage better.’’

I was going to say that those fake Rose tweets are more coherent than Durant's real tweets but then I checked KD's feed and clearly some PR flack has taken control to make them understandable

Literally those are the only 3 things he can do. Somebody still has to chew his food for him.

Did it really help his percentages? I don't see much when I look at his stats list year-by-year, although admittedly basketball stats...not my forte'

Hardaway’s eFG% (which includes a boost for made threes) improved .20 points the season after his return from the injury, although it never really jumped much after that. But his game also shifted a little, he still drove but he didn’t hesitate to shoot jumpers. And his all around game matured by the time he was in Miami to something pretty impressive.

"I remember (the injury)," Rose said recently in an interview with Comcast SportsNet Chicago, which was his first interview since the injury. "I remember everything. I remember jumping in the air and coming back down, and just that popping sound. I felt it actually tear when I laid all the way out and it just let go.

"I didn't have that that much pain after that. In the beginning I did, but I didn't want to yell or anything. When that happened, all I could think about was people just talking. You could hear the whole arena, people just whispering all around -- one of the things, like 'Not again. Come on, man. First game back. We had the win' -- and I was just hoping [it was] nothing serious. Then, we got to the hospital, got in the MRI machine, the whole time praying. Dr. Cole, the Bulls doctor, came up to me and told me it was torn. I couldn't believe it. That's the closest thing to death, the closest to death I've got to right there, where it just seemed like the wind and everything was taken out [of me]."

“The way I look at it is if that’s the case (people are mocking me), then—and no disrespect—you’d have to be an idiot. That I won some contest to be in the NBA? Or that I don’t have to fight every day? That I’m not the first guy on the floor and the first in the weight room and the last to leave? That I haven’t been waking up 5:30 my whole life to train? I’d have to think you’d are an idiot to think I’m a joke. They might, which would be disappointing. Maybe it is that. But I know why I’m here.”

Not so shockingly, the Bulls drop from 1st to 8th over the last 2 editions of ESPN's weird Future Power Rankings thingie.

8. Chicago Bulls | Future Power Rating: 684

PLAYERS MANAGEMENT MONEY MARKET DRAFT

392 (8th) 130 (10th) 37 (25th) 77 (6th) 48 (15th)

Two editions ago, the Bulls claimed the No. 1 spot in our rankings. A year and a half later, a devastating injury to superstar Derrick Rose and some significant losses to the bench have taken their toll.

There still remains a lot to be bullish about in Chicago. If Rose recovers from a torn ACL and returns to his MVP form, the Bulls' starting five will remain very dangerous. However, we have our concerns that ownership may not be able to afford to keep this team together, especially its high-caliber bench.

Chicago let Omer Asik walk this summer and might be forced to do the same with Taj Gibson when he hits restricted free agency next offseason. The Bulls have also openly explored moving another player, most likely Luol Deng, as a way to create more space between them and the luxury tax. As a result, both their management and roster scores took a considerable hit in our ratings.

If Rose hadn't gotten hurt and the Bulls had made a huge run in the playoffs, things may have been very different. But with Rose possibly out for the 2012-13 season, the Bulls decided it wasn't worth the cost to keep such a high-priced team together. The results of those decisions might be irreversible.
