I'll be in the minority, but I don't think Lindblom would be a horrible return, considering he's cost controlled for a few seasons. Maybe they also think they can make him a starter?

As a whole, it wouldn't be a horrible return. The Delgado rumors have probably ... jaded our views a bit, for lack of a better term.

But the thing is, the Cubs have a bevy of righty pen arms in the upper levels ready (or close) for looks (and some may be left unprotected this winter). Lindblom isn't a dominant guy, IMO, that you say, hey, here's your closer for the next five years. He's a borderline closer, likely more of a setup type, IMO, and if it's Lindblom or gambling on a couple low level arms, I might prefer the latter.

Please god don't let him be headlining this deal. I'd rather have just maliciously hung onto Dempster then picked up this package of crap and let him have his way.

A second source says Lindblom as part of package to #Cubs is "completely unfounded.'' So nothing new with Dempster.

Oh thank God

From Randall Delgado to a reliever. Thanks Ryan Dempster. Now [expletive] off.

But he's so funny....

I hope this last week was just one big final prank for him.

Call me crazy, but at this point, who would be talking about rumors from either side of this, after the Braves trade blew up from a leak? I really don't think there's gonna be any fore-knowledge of anything at this point. We'll hear about it when it's done.

Wow. Probably very true.

Agreed. I don't think anything really "new" will come out before Tuesday (with the obvious of Dempster agreeing to the ATL deal).

We know the agreement between the clubs was finalized regarding Delgado, etc. We know Dempster has nixed it; either through no decision or a solid "no". All indications lead to a no decision at this point. Dempster wants to pal it up in LA with his BFF for a couple months and would rather be there. He's being selfish in that regard, but, in my interpretation of the situation (from what's been reported), he's basically just screwing the cubs if the braves move on and pick up a pitcher. That sounds obvious but the reason I bring it up is because if the Braves call his bluff or have no other attractive alternatives, I think they know Dempter will "settle" for ATL. Basically, we just have to hope other teams are asking a king's ransom for their pitchers and hope the braves don't find a suitable partner.

Hopefully they don't take offense to this delay in the decision and are mature and understand a player's preference after having 10/5 rights ((not in any way defending Dempster - I think the whole situation blindsided Theo (hate Thoeyer, btw) and company - or else talks wouldn't have progressed to the point where a deal was leaked from either side)).

Wren has not said the deal is off the table and I don't think they particularly take offense to Dempster's preference. Just a gut feeling hearing Wren's comments, Dempster's comments, and the info from "sources".

With a situation as sticky as this you have to take each report with a grain of salt and assume the answer is somewhere in the middle. That's my estimation, at least.

I mainly lurk here - most of my couple thousand posts are useless game-thread reactions - because there are many intelligent posters here that either convey my thoughts or know more than I can and probably assessed the situation more rationally and reasonably than I have. Just my humble opinion and I probably was too long-winded in saying that, but, in summary, I don't think the braves offer is off the table. In fact, I'd say it's at worst 50/50 and getting better by the minute.

Nope. RT @awaskow42: @Kevin_Goldstein Any way in the world Cubs get same value Braves offered for Dempster?

Dempster didn't use his 10/5 rights because of Twitter or rumors, it was just his weaksauce excuse for his ultimate goal of going to the Dodgers. If a Dodger trade had broke on Twitter, Dempster wouldn't have cared in the least.

At the risk of toeing the "news I don't want to hear is unreliable" line, Goldstein really doesn't know much of anything.

Yeah, when it comes to inside info/market evaluation KG is not a source I'd go to.

101 pages dedicated to a guy pulled out of the dumpster. He only has 10/5 because we pulled him out of the dumpster. I don't want anything for him. I want his career over now! No more contracts for his selfish, money grubbing pig.

I think he's saying they won't get that kind of value from anyone else, which is kind of obvious.

He's often the first to admit that. He's great when it comes to evaluating prospects, but if you follow him on Twitter, people act as though he's a Magic 8 Ball. Then people get upset when he doesn't give him the answer they want.

He also explicitly said the Cubs won't get Delgado himself in another tweet (not that he'd know).

I agree with Kevin, we wont get the same value from the Braves, the Cubs will have to demand more. The market has shrunk since monday with Greinke off the board
