You know $12 million is a lot of money but at the same time its not that much. You spread that out over 60 years, thats 200k a year. Now that's still a lot but if most people made 200k a year, they'd think about how they can make 300K, etc.

So its not like Prior is so damn rich that the money he can make even as a major league reliever isn't appealing to him

It's not like he has 12 million either when you take into account taxes, agent fees, etc.

Prior's at a higher tax bracket, but I hate when people deduct taxes from salary only for higher income people or the lottery. The guy making 30K isn't really bringing home 30K either.

No, but if he's bringing in 30k every year he has an income stream whereas the person who made $12m over 6 years a decade ago does not necessarily have any income. People talk about a guy who made X amount of dollars in his career as if he has that X amount of dollars as liquid assets in his portfolio. They shouldn't.

I know he didn't make megabucks in the majors, but surely he had some endorsement deals over the years to pad that income. And I would hope that he didn't MC Hammer all of his money away. How much do you think he makes in the minors? He could coach, take a TV job on the MLB Network, write a book, become a motivational speaker, etc. All of those would pay more than what he's making now I'd imagine.

Jesus Christ, maybe he just wants to pitch.

Maybe someday he'll be able to do it again. It's only been 6 years.

So what? Who is he hurting by trying?

Himself. Over and over. Maybe his wife, if he's married.

She married him when he played baseball, I'm sure she realizes what the baseball life is. And of course you can't know what's going on with his married life. I'm sure he's Wife is supportive of this because this is who she married. A ball player. You are really reaching for it now.

And you apparently.

Yes, my life is damaged by this feeble attempt to regain his glory days. That was quite the zinger you laid on me.

You sound like a lunatic.

Are there reasons for him to quit? Sure. But there are reasons for him to keep going. It's hardly mind boggling that he's trying to continue his career.

All those who think they have the right to run everybody's lives by their own subjective standards.

He's good for about one of these per Aggie offseason and they are a TREAT.

When is he going to give up?

The [expletive]? Why should he?

Because he can't stay healthy and keeps ending up under the knife. When is it enough? He's never going to pitch in the majors again. He has plenty of money. Go live your life, the dream is over.

If you get to decide what he does with his life, does he get to decide what you do with yours?

No ofcourse not, but Prior can give his opinion what he wants me to do with my life just like I can give my opinion on what he should do with his. If he just likes being around other baseball players in the minors that's cool. But if he thinks he has even a sniff of a chance to make the majors in any way, he's just not being realistic. Guy hasn't piched in the MLB for what, 8+ years?

When Mark Prior posts a long rant that you should give up your career because you suck at it/can't perform at the same level you used to, I'll go there and troll the [expletive] out of him. You have my word. I got your back, bro.

Well, yeah.

The guy has the next 50 years of his life to sit around and not be a professional baseball player. His window to pitch at the professional level (and yes that includes extended spring training and the minors) is closing. Why the hell wouldn't he do this?

Some of you are so bitter and dense.

He has clearly moved on from his time as a Cub. Why can't you?

Good luck to Mark. As a Cubs fan, you have to root for him. He probably feels this will be his last go at it and more power to him if he can get back to the bigs.

His 03 season down the stretch was about as fun to watch as any Cubs pitcher I can remember.
