Man so I guess that outrage was just a show then. As Davis walks by and gives WWW a huge hug after winning the torney MOP. If people are really ok with what Cal is doing in Lexington I don't understand why.

Do you think the Illini are going to meet your level of expectations without getting dirty?

We did fairly well in '05. Did we cheat to get that group together? If we ever get to the level of dirty that Cal is ok with, I won't be cheering for it.

I don't know, Self is a great salesman. I think most top programs are dirty in some way, whether it be direct, AAU, or a booster.

I would say the odds are high someone in the program broke a code of conduct rule, whether it be a player taking something or a minor recruiting violation, etc. Its probably not the magnitude of UK but to say it was clean under the bs NCAA rules is wishful thinking.

I do find it odd that a POS like Richmond as the #1 Soph recruit commits there, I wouldn't assume Weber had any involvement, but I doubt his relationship w/Paul and location were strong enough to not go greener pastures.

His parents were huge Illinois fans and I think he wanted to be perceived as a savior after the EJ situation. As for self, call me when he gets two seasons taken away from him. Cal is dirt and deep down even UK fans know it.

There will invariably be dirtiness (though I think Weber was as clean as they come) in CBB, but if we look at it on a spectrum, I'm thinking Calipari is on the extremely filthy end of it. Cal is the coaching equivalent of Pigpen.

I do find it ironic that only the programs that get caught actually cheat. Nothing has charged against UK since Sutton, should I assume they're clean?

Hell, even w/UMass and Memphis Calipari was never charged w/anything wrong, it was those within the respective programs.

All of the top programs get dirty and all of the programs that want to have the annual success of those top programs will have to get dirty to match, including Illinois, they would not be the exception to that rule.

I agree w/that.

i dont know if cal even needs to be dirty anymore. People are lining up to go there because they think they'll be the next rose/wall/davis, etc.

The relationship with WWW doesn't technically violate any rules, I don't think. And while no one really knows what the hell he does, kids (and their handlers) are smart enough to know it's probably beneficial to get in his good graces. And an easy way to do that is to sign with UK.

He's probably still cheating anyway. But I'm not even sure if he has to.

I am disproportionately bothered by Dickie V actively recruiting for UK, though. He was imploring Shabazz to go there, which is a total joke. I wish he'd just go away.

Richmond committed as a freshman after one game, not a sophomore. He was never #1 in his class.

It was 9th grade, you're right. I remember him being 1 or 2 while at Waukegan.

Agreed. He doesn't have to as far as getting a top class, there's too much ego though.

I hate when broadcasters do that, Vitale is awful at that, I didn't hear him do that though obviously remember him doing that for Duke. I despise Digger Phelps for the opposite as much as him and Packer trashed UK, bitter old crotches.

I think he was a top ten, but never 1 or 2.

I guess time-traveling gypsies stick together.

I think the idea that UI's program is squeaky clean is pretty naive. Bruce may have never done anything untoward, but the program is a lot bigger than Bruce.

No one cares that Cal is ruining basketball lol.

I think the stupid NBA draft eligibility rules have a lot more to do with ruining BB than Cal.

yeah, how is cal "ruining basketball?" is he NOT supposed to recruit the best players?

"no thanks, anthony davis, i don't want you here."

Gee I wonder if the $200,000 has anything to do with it? Waiting for the Davis lawsuit to happen. So smart abuck. So smart.

And this kid was a pretty big Georgetown lean and suddenly is UK bound. Prolly Cal playing by the rules again.

my goodness, you are a baby.

Hey look, you were wrong again. Then resorted to a personal attack, but yeah I'm the baby.

Maybe you should stick to being a terrible movie critic.

Any Iowa fans/residents hearing anything about Uthoff requesting release from Wisconsin?

Seems to be some pretty strong rumors. It wouldn't make sense for him to go to another B1G school, but certainly would suck for Wisconsin. He and Dekker were going to be a really nice 3/4 combo for the next 4 years.

Posted

Confirmed that he's asked for his released. Everyone is shocked and doesn't know why. He's only a freshman and redshirted this year to add lbs.

There has to be some sort of reason.

Posted

Even his AAU coach was shocked by this. He doesn't even have a plan for what he wants to do. Sounds like going JUCO for a year might be the plan. According to pretty much everyone he fit in well there, was liked by coaches and teammates, was happy there and was doing well and poised to have a solid role for 4 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if he went to UNI where two of his former AAU teammates are now. Apparently Ryan is trying to put a ton of restrictions on his release, including blocking Big 12 schools for some reason. Which all makes sense. It's not like Bo was the first coach in forever to demand a waiver so he could get a commit from another Big Ten school.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/early-lead/post/bernie-fine-accuser-zach-tomaselli-admits-i-made-the-entire-thing-up/2012/04/13/gIQAULOEFT_blog.html

Former Syracuse ball boy Bobby Davis and Michael Lang pushed forward with their lawsuit against the school and Orange head basketball coach Jim Boeheim on Wednesday, claiming Boeheim defamed them following their claims that they were sexually abused by former assistant coach Bernie Fine.

But on the same day Davis and Lang were accusing Boeheim of intimidating other possible victims from coming forward, one of their fellow accusers admitted he fabricated his account.

In a series of e-mails to CNYCentral.com, Zach Tomaselli recanted the allegations he made in December, saying “it was a game to me.”

Tomaselli told CNYCentral.com that his lie was motivated by his dislike for the Syracuse basketball team after they beat his favorite team, the Kansas Jayhawks, in the 2003 national title game.

Tomaselli’s lawsuit against Fine was dismissed in January after he told the Post-Standard of Syracuse that he altered e-mail correspondence with Syracuse police regarding his abuse claims. Tomaselli, 23, is scheduled to report to a Maine prison next Wednesday to begin a three-year sentence for sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy at a summer camp.
