Finke to Illinois is official. I figured that was a done deal as soon as KBD went to O$U.

I don't know how to feel about this. He still seems incredibly raw, but I don't think the national ratings have caught up with his supposed breakout summer and growth spurt. Is he a good enough player for Illinois to have given him their only '14 scholarship?

I know Painter was hard after him and he had offers from Wisconsin and Iowa as well, so four B1G offers.

There's not much video of Finke on the internet, but from what I've read he fits Groce's system well. The 2014 class is going to include more than just him thought. I can't foresee Ibby Djimde or Mike Shaw sticking around much longer, they both seem out of place in this system.

Hoops report has him as the fourth best kid in Illinois now, ahead of two top 60 kids. I think once the list updates he will be top 100. Telep and ESPN have him as a four star.

I'm very excited for the B1G season to start... man, the conference is really stacked -- going on the road is going to be a gauntlet.

Sounds like the Big East as we know it is dead. The 7 catholic schools have decided to split and create their own conference. I see Xavier as an automatic choice and possibly St. Joseph's and Butler. St. Louis and Creighton are unlikely adds unless the new conference wants 12 or more teams split into east/west divisions. This is where it gets interesting- if the BE 7 don't add SLU and Dayton, look for the Missouri Valley to add those schools.

And holy cow, realignment can get confusing.

An all-Catholic basketball league? Wtf?

Yeah, it's not like it's been talked about for the last 20 years or so.

Sorry, I'm not on top of my all-Catholic sports league developments.

Rivals has him as a three star and Scout has him as a two star. I'm thinking these two (or at least Scout) have not updated their ratings. I like what I've read about him. It sounds like he has a real good three-point stroke, but he really needs to add some weight.

And yeah, from the way the Illinois beat writers are talking, it's a near certainty that at least one more scholarship opens up for 2014.

Yeah I think two will.

The big white kid (Maverick Morgan) they're bringing in next year looks slow footed. I wasn't too impressed with his footwork or agility in the video I saw. Anybody seen him on a more extended basis have a different take?

Haven't seen him, he's putting up some pretty good numbers against good competition this year though.

This is blasphemy from Grantland. There should always be faith in Haith:

Even though the Tigers were a top-10 team for most of last season, I never really trusted Haith for no other reason than every time the camera cut to him on the sidelines, it looked like he wasn't coaching or paying attention to the game. Instead, I got the feeling he was wondering why Michelle Branch never blossomed into the megastar she should have become. Missouri losing in the first round of the tournament last year to 15th-seeded Norfolk State only solidified my belief that you should never have faith in Haith. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to another season of Frank Haith fodder.

That said, my mistrust of Haith isn't of the Ben Howland "Why do you insist on running this talented team into the ground?" variety. It's more of an "Isn't it adorable that he doesn't really know what he's doing?" type of mistrust, kind of like how I feel about Scott Drew at Baylor.

This is overall good for most of these schools, especially the lower tier ones like Providence and DePaul. A 10 or 11 team league with true home and homes with all of these schools would be really entertaining and balanced. Might hit recruiting a little bit, but you would still be playing in all of the big East coast media markets (NYC, Philly, DC) and playing teams such as Georgetown, Villanova, etc.. every year. I'm a huge fan. If it were up to me, I would add Xavier, SLU, and Butler and call it a day. Creighton would be tempting as the 11th member.

No need to add St. Joes, Dayton, LaSalle, etc... as they really bring nothing to the table as far as TV sets go, but if they went to a larger 14 or 16 team conference, it wouldn't be the worst thing on earth as all of the schools would be relatively geographically and size consistent.

By the way, DePaul went on the road and laid a 78-61 beatdown on Arizona State in Tempe. 5 in a row for DePaul. WTF?

I've been so impressed with Groce as a coach, he uses the talents of the squad and lets them capitalize on those talents, they're not trying to be an interior team with perimeter shooters. He's an outstanding recruiter who might be an equally impressive x's and o's guy.
