Anyone think Theo could spin Wood to SD in Rizzo deal? Since we don't have an abundance of young starters.

I think if SD actually wanted him they could have gotten him in the Latos deal instead of Volquez.

The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds are close on a deal that would send reliever Sean Marshall to Cincinnati in exchange for left-handed pitcher Travis Wood and two minor leaguers, according to a source familiar with the situation.

That's [expletive] awful. Marshall has more value than that, unless at least one of the prospects is in the Reds top 5-7

The market sets the value.

I'm confident the minor leaguers will be pretty good pieces. I'm sure there was plenty of interest in Marshall. Or, it could be, as soonercub mentioned, this leads directly to Rizzo.

Is it unreasonable for me to hope that atleast one of those prospects is in the Reds top 10? I'm not expecting top 3, but maybe a 9 or a 10?

Funny, taking a look at Redszone, they're pissed about potentially giving up 4 years of Wood for 1 year of Marshall. Of course, they keep throwing around the word "middle reliever" as a pejorative term when Marshall is one of the 5 best relievers in baseball, and our old friend Reds44 seems to be leading that charge. We all have our own lens on things, I guess.

A fair trade is usually one that pisses off both fanbases.

I'm so mixed on wanting to trade Marshall. I feel like he would be undervalued by other teams, therefore we wouldn't get the best return but than again, selling high on a reliever tends to be a good choice.

It Wood becomes a decent pitcher it's a really good move I would think.

They don't have much left in their system right now. Hamilton would be cool, just to watch him steal 100 bases and all, but other than that, he's not exciting himself. Daniel corcino, maybe? But he's tiny and probably winds up in the pen? That said, I guess Wood has some value as a 4 or 5 lefty starter, even though I'm not a fan myself. Hopefully we get one of these 2 guys along with him, but my guess is it'll be fodder instead of guys we can get excited over.

because i actually don't mind that. you have 5 guys each very capable of being right around 3.5 ERA

the homerun stuff would kinda frighten me, however

I wouldn't get your hopes up for Hamilton. That's a little much.

And the more I think about it, the more I think Wood will be a Padre.

I like Marshall, but he's a year away from FA and at the peak of his value. And he's a reliever.

If the return is good, this is the sort of move we would complain about Hendry not making.

It'd be ok but it's hard to be excited about a redeemable rotation when our offense is likely to be not great.

I am intrigued about an idea of building a decent pitching staff with guys who can defend, thus making the pitching appear better. Don't know if that' the route we're considering though. The Dejesus signing is why I even consider it.

if they can move soriano, jackson/dejesus/byrd would be a damn good defense. stewart is supposed to be good, right? castro will improve. prince is more than adequate. hope springs eternal, i suppose

The bolded might make Zack Cozart an interesting name in the Reds system.

was going to suggest that a slick gloved middle infielder makes a lot of sense as one of the two guys, other being a relief type project they can use either later '12 or in '13.
