How long has it been a McDonalds? I seem to remember it being something else when I was a kid during the late '70s. I always wanted to eat there but never got to go.

I started going to Cubs games in the late 70's, but I was still pretty young then. From my recollections (probably moreso the early 80's) it was always a McDonald's. We'd get food there and then take it into Wrigley to eat while we watched BP.

That corner was the home Franksville in the 60's through the early 70's. Not sure when it changed hands, or if there was another tenant between Franksville and McDonalds.

Good move... that's the biggest open area around the stadium.

Gives them a decent amount of land to play with and would be a better location for some of the "Triangle Building" features than the other piece of land.

Franksville! Thanks Fred.

They sold hot dogs and the usual Chicago stuff. THOUGH I WOULDN'T KNOW FIRST HAND SINCE WE HAD TO EAT STUPID HOMEADE SANDWICHES INSTEAD OF BUYING FOOD AT THE PARK LIKE EVERYONE ELSE! Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Actually, Franksville probably sucked and being too cheap was just my mom's way of protecting me.

Count me in as not everybody else. THANKS DAD!!! Although the bags of peanuts from jewel were a legitimate bargain.

Was there a Dunkin Donuts around the park previously? I seem to remember stopping there and then grabbing a hot dog somewhere. (Wrigleyville dogs I assume?)

The building on the triangle location was a donut shop

Not that is it plausible under his timetable, but there was also a DD in the concourse behind home plate for awhile.

A bum once shook my dad down in that parking lot. He was "sleeping" in front of the car and wouldn't move until he go five bucks. The [expletive] had a white plastic bottle of rubbing alcohol he was drinking from. Even though I was only 9 or 10 that memory is etched in my brain.

Why didn't your dad just drag him aside? Or just push the bastard out of the way.

That was before he found his lucrative job on the oil rigs.

So, um, what's the reference?

It's a cubbiebum thing.

And am I really the only person who has a problem with a story that involves a bum drinking poison?

I don't think anyone has any issues with as long as it's DA bum.

I don't know what was in the bottle, however, it's not uncommon for alcoholics to drink it when they can't get to grain alcohol. It's not like drinking Drano.

Some desperate boozers actually drink hand sanitizer these days.

You don't have to be desperate. Just thirsty.

Or is that just me?

I had never seen this Wendy's balloon thing in my life.

Sullivan made a strange comment in an article tonight. He said that it was weird the Cubs had purchased the McDonald's b/c the team had banned personnel from picking up food there for the players. Apparently after hiring the nutritionist fast food was banned. Except for days when Garza pitched; for some reason everyone was allowed to eat Popeye's then.
