Some folks on Brewerfan seem to think they're getting him for 3/30, which is as outrageous as thinking they're going 3/48 for him.

I'm guessing around 3/40.

Ramirez 3-year deal with #Brewers expected to be in $34M to $37M range. Numbers not confirmed. Brewers earlier made offer to Rollins. #MLB

ughhhhhhhhh

sorry we couldn't be bothered to talk to you aramis, maybe we can trade for you in may when the ian stewart experiment is over

That's pretty much on line with what Aramis is scheduled to be worth. The Cubs do get a pick out of the deal. It's a close call on whether the Cubs should have considered a deal like that or not.

It makes Aramis look very uncertain about his future as well if he opted out of a 1/16 deal just to take 3/36. Either that or he misjudged his market.

So even if we are still going with $5 million/WAR (I think it might be getting higher than that), he just needs to be worth 7.5 WAR over the next three years to be worth that money?

And he upgrades a major divisional rival at a position of serious need.

Ewww.

I don't buy that. The guy wanted 3 years for the stability. He's never been about maxing out.

How many was he worth the last three?

6.2

Okay, you are right, I still wouldn't have wanted him at this contract. But it's annoying that Milwaukee just upgraded and apparently has more money than we thought.

He put up 6.2 WAR the last 3 years.

It's a reasonable deal for Milwaukee(seriously, are they just raising the payroll or something?), but it's not a deal I'd have wanted the Cubs to make. All the goofs who are saying that signing Pujols or Fielder or Wilson is for teams who need that one guy to put them over the top? It actually applies to giving 34 year old 3B a 3 year deal.

I dont see why anyone would be surprised here. Hoyerstein want young players who can help win now and 33-34 year old Aramis Ramirez does not fit that description. At a 1 year deal, they would have made an exception, but at 3 years it simply didn't fit the plan. 27-28 year old Prince Fielder, on the other hand very much does fit and that's the kind of cornerstone they need.

How does DeJesus at a 2-year-deal fit into that dichotomy?

At the price, if they do chose to put something together in the next 2 years he's a good guy to have. You need someone in RF and at 4.5 mil a year I'm not sure you're going to do much better. However, if they don't plan to win in the next 2 years then they may as well have gone with Colvin anyway.

He is cost efficient.
