And with that, Bobby Petrino is fired. Presser coming up in an hour.

 

BP had rubbed a few too many bosses and big money alums the wrong way. In the end he didn't have many allies I'm hearing.

Also heard Arkansas will go after Garrick McGhee, who will be a star somewhere. Just please do not let it be Malzhan or one of the Bowden boys.

 

As the world's only Razorback and Saints fan, I can say it's been a long, long offseason.

Really does seem like an overreaction. I was thinking he'd get some sort of in-house punishment, maybe suspend him for the first couple of games or something. Didn't think they'd go so far as to fire him.

Eventually, I don't think there's any doubt he will. He might have to spend a year or two in a lesser conference repairing his image, but he wins quickly wherever he goes and a team (or multiple teams) will be satisfied with that.

I'm not so sure it was an overreaction. The fact that his alleged mistress got a 100k do-nothing job on the football team just reeks of impropriety.

Yeah, you can't not fire a guy who hires his mistress to be his subordinate and doesn't tell anyone/lies about it. The precedent would be too much, never mind that he apparently gave her 20 grand cash too. Also: http://twitpic.com/98bfq9

I can see that. I hadn't heard everything when I posted that - it seems like less of an overreaction now.

 

Its not an overreation at all. He's a highly visible public figure who lied to his boss and the public to cover-up both a highly inappropriate physical and professional relationship. It also seems clear that he abused his power in hiring her to this most recent gig, as he apprarently did so to keep her quiet. His lies embarassed the football program and University and destroyed his credibility once and for all (don't forget what he did in Atlanta and Louisville). Moreover, he handed the University "cause" for termination, meaning he won't see a dime of his buyout.

 

Bobby Petrino is a bad, bad guy. One of his former assistants at L'ville (IIRC) was asked what he thought of him and said something like, "Professionaly, he's as good a coach as anyone I have ever been around. Personally...he's a really good coach..."

She's probably not even hot in Iowa. When I heard volleyball I figured the range was quite wide, with the risk to the downside very high.

 

Iowa has more than it's fair share of attractive women. It's not like we're Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Nebraska.

My limited experience with Minnesota says they do alright for themselves. It's just so damn cold that they're always bundled up.

 

i went to the big ten basketball tournament a couple times and always paid really close attention to the various fanbases. minnesota was always comfortably the group i'd most like to hang out with. nothing but slightly dorky looking guys with pretty girls with dark hair.

You're both right. I was just taking a shot at mcf. My undergrad was 75% kids from the Chicago or MSP burbs. MSP is just fine in this department.

 

I'm 100% honest about Wisconsin and Nebraska though.
