I wish Iowa would hire a DC, preferably a really good one.

any of the big ten schools still looking for a DC should hire tom bradley.

There were rumors a few days ago that he was spotted in Iowa City, but there was nothing I'd consider credible. I don't hate the idea.

Sal Sunseri is the new Tennessee DC.

I really like this hire. Not surprised Dooley targeted a Saban guy and Sunseri has worked with Saban enough that some of that defensive brilliance had to rub off. My pipedream hope was Randy Shannon, but Sunseri was one of the best realistic options out there.

I heard a few negative things about Randy Shannon when UCLA was looking at him last offseason. You're definitely better off with Sunseri.

I've never really heard any questions about Shannon as a DC, but it would explain him continuing to not get a job.

The hiring of Sunseri did kind of hurt us, as Saban has hired away Lance Thompson to fill Sunseri's former role. Much as I like Wilcox, Sirmon, and Baggett, losing Thompson hurts more than any of them, I think. Fantastic coach and recruiter who apparently was pretty pissed that he was passed over for the DC job here.

Heard some of the same things when he interviewed at Texas too. Mostly sounds like a one trick pony when it comes to defensive schemes, not very good at making adjustments, and was also said to have been a terrible interviewer or at least he was at the Texas interview. However as a DC his defense's were always ranked towards the top.

Turns out Warinner isn't even going to call plays at OSU, as the ISU OC that Meyer brought in was told he gets that role. So he basically has the same job he had at ND, only with a co-coordinator title. He probably moves on again in 1-2 years, looking for that coveted play-calling role.

That's really strange. As you said, his defenses were excellent at Miami as a DC, so it's hard to reconcile that with reports that he doesn't make adjustments well and has a limited arsenal of schemes. He was DC while the talent was exceptional there, so maybe his success was derived purely from having more talent than anybody else?

He was a pretty good play-caller at KU. Our offenses put up big numbers when he was there.

which is why I and other ND fans were so excited to have him. I understand leaving b/c he got passed over for the OC gig and I think that's what he's after. Just funny that the story when he left was he wanted to call plays and he's not getting that role. Guess he had the last laugh by taking a recruit with him.

btw - I'm hearing weis is expecting other 5-years to join KU after May graduation. does that story have legs. There are 1-2 ND guys that are eligible for 5th years that Kelly won't take b/c they won't be on the 2-deep, including a solid nose tackle, that are rumored to be considering re-joining Weis.

That's what he said in the press conference today. He said he was going to be signing other 5 year guys after May. He was pretty explicit about it.

Benchwarmers from ND are still going to be better than whatever we have. I hope he snags them.

The name I've heard is Cwynar (former 4-star DT from IL). He was playing this year, but he's been passed by the stud freshmen/sophomores. I actually expected one of the 5-year WRs to join Weis, esp Walker (another 4-star, but he fell out of favor with Kelly and hasn't sniffed game time), but I haven't heard his name floating about.

My sources are telling me that Bob Elliot is leaving Iowa State to become Notre Dame secondary coach.

Love this hire. Shake down the...Hayden Fry coaching tree for all its fruit.

Not sure how the DB responsibilities will be divided as Cooks is also back there. He may move back to LB coach though.

I need to pay more attention. I didn't realize the number of Iowa guys ND already had on their staff.
