As with the original Paterno thread, if you're going to be bothered that people are critical/snarky about the horrible things he did and not as reverent of the good things as you'd like, then you're probably best off not commenting.

To be more clear, this is a complex issue that involves actions of grave seriousness. As such, one man's "inapproprate" is another's "what he has coming to him". If anyone(pro-JoePa or anti-JoePa) can't handle that without getting into a petty squabble over the degrees of how horrible/great a person JoePa is/was, then don't participate.

So sad about Joe Paterno. I know he's a horrible person for what he did, but it's really sad to see him go from a legend at Penn State to disgraced, to fired, to probably dead in a span of 3 months. I almost wonder if he wanted to die or lost the will to live and stopped cancer treatments leading to his sharp decline in health. A little fishy just because originally it was said to be a treatable form of lung cancer.

 

I am almost certain that if JoePa was still the coach at Penn State and the Sandusky thing didn't occur, he would not be on death's doorstep as we speak. Similar to Bear Bryant without the disgracing.

Okay, if we're going to this far with it, might as well spell it out for you.

 

The original post uses the news that JoePa is near death as a means to lampoon EhDubya's prognostications when it comes to Penn State. It doesn't paint JoePa in a negative light, unless you think JoePa is a great enough person that his health should be treated with reverence. Again, that's a topic of great debate. Clearly, Truffle's bothered by it as he makes a snippy comment about it, and then illiniguy does something similar in the opposite direction. You were not the object of my first post, because your post obviously isn't inflammatory in any way. Despite that, you've managed to parlay your complex about the situation and willful misinterpretation of my remarks into a near page long argument that didn't originally involve you.

 

So to sum up:

 

Truffle and illiniguy: If you can't talk about JoePa without needling the people who feel differently than you, please feel free to stop posting on the topic.

 

Derwood: Please read carefully and consider other perspectives on a situation before getting entrenched in a conspiratorial "you're all out to get me" argument.
