Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Cubs are "not overly optimistic" about trading Matt Garza before Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline.

The Cubs want a strong return, but teams are "leery" because Garza is sidelined with what is being described as a minor triceps issue. The Cubs might be better served to wait until the offseason to find a deal. The Reds, Blue Jays and Rangers have been mentioned as potential suitors in the past 24 hours.

On the bright side, this technically comes from the New York Post.

Sherman was the first guy reporting Theo to Chicago, IIRC.

On Mike&Mike today, @jaysonst says it looks like Matt Garza *is* going to be traded today.

Given the value we've gotten (or should've gotten) on trades so far, I'm very excited about this potential trade.

if the rangers, reds, and blue jays do end up bidding against each other, the return could be crazy

Heyman never disappoints.

Make fun of Heymen all you want, but one day you might wake up and there won't be a Heymen and you will be disappointed.

Or more likely: you'll awaken to him standing over you bed wielding a knife sporting a vintage poodle skirt.

the meatball outrage of trading garza to a division rival is almost enough for me to hope the reds get him

Hell no. I like the Fruit Loop and don't wish Dusty Baker on him.

@Buster_ESPN: Garza is interesting target for any GM with confidence in his doctors interpreting MRI info. AZ has the prospects/need and an aggressive GM.

Going by what they gave the A's for Cahill, and the pitching prospects they have, this would be THE perfect partner.

Start with Hamilton and go from there.

This. And at least this time we know going into the offseason we're tanking 2013.

I'm sure the front office and team feel the exact same way. They should probably just take a year off and come back in 2014.

In the Winter, peaple legitimately thought we could get Turner, Castalannos, and one of Smyly/Crosby for Garza alone. Now we can't get a blocked prospect for Garza and our top prospect going into this season?

Adrian Beltre is locked up through 2015. Olt is about to be 24. They could try to convert him to OF, or they could cash him him in for a package which would fill two of their needs.

Well, they did that in 2012, so why wouldn't they in 2013?
