Far from the biggest issue for the Bears, but when will they just bite the bullet and cut Chester Taylor? He serves no purpose on this team.

Well if they want to be professional and courteous about it they'll do it asap so Taylor can move on to his next team with a couple weeks prior to the regular season. Or they can try and showcase him for a team that might be looking for an insurance policy at RB or if a team suddenly has a need because of injury. Even if its a 7th rounder, that's something.

History makes me think the Bears would do the courteous thing, but who knows.

Incredibly happy about the Bears line last night. If only there could be a TE on Webb's side every play though. He is and will continue to be the main thorn in the side of the offensive line.

Once again the WR I'm most confident in is Earl Bennett.

Not worried about the D or special teams in the slightest. I do fear Major Wright will give up some big plays though that could cost them a game.

Yeah I dunno whats funny, this was probably a more encouraging game for the Bears than the Bills preseason game (the one they won)

O-line looked almost looked like it was composed of professional football players

oh god.

No dude its totally hilarious to gloat about the result of a preseason game that no one gives a [expletive] about. Preseason performance (which wasn't that bad actually) is a perfect indicator of how a season is going to play out. As such, every Bears fan is walking around embarrassed and unable to look a Packer fan in the eye today because they are so ashamed at how the team played. That's why chucky's words really hit home, because while we figured we were screwed after last night, this really hurts.

lol seriously, someone gloating about a preseason game? Actually I wouldnt even call it gloating, because gloating implies that you are adding shame to the shamed, and clearly none of us give a crap about the final score of the game last night.

If only chucky had something to gloat about with regard to his own team in the last year.

Ok ok, I understand as I only saw the second half last night. But sports radio doesn't seem too pleased with their overall performance. Anyways, just trying to get the juices flowing early. See you Sept 25th.

So you thought it made sense to gloat about the second half of a preseason game that did not even follow your team?

Sports radio was livid at the Bears 0-4 preseason last year and most people wrote off the team. Then the season started and they won the division.

Sports radio was heaping tons of praise on the Lions 4 years ago after they went 4-0 in the preseason and looked good doing so. They were even becoming a trendy pick to win the division. Instead the season started and they went 0-16.

I figured you just saw the score and said something, but I think you are smart enough to know that the scores of preseason games are pointless and tell us nothing. And maybe the sensationalist sports radio stations are disappointed, but the Trib's original article on the game this morning was titled "Offensive Line Looks Improved in Bears Loss", not "Horrible Bears get blown out and embarrassed".

Eh, I live in Chicago and it's all I hear.

this clown is going to be booed so, so hard this season. Relative to the fluff that is normally written in training camp, this just seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

his only hope is to play well, if he doesn't, he's going to be seriously insane before he leaves town, i mean, more than he is now.

Darryl Drake, Bears WR coach:

Drake said that if Williams doesn't get it together soon, Knox will be re-inserted into the starting lineup.

"If things don't start changing, then Johnny's going to be in there," Drake said. "That's straight from the horse's mouth."

Martz is more forgiving...

"I think Roy is fine. I think it's new to him to get back into some of the routes, the types of routes we run and the timing of it," Martz said. "We're getting kind of on the same page with Jay with that stuff, but he's doing fine. He'll be alright. It's a bit of a process. He's not where he needs to be yet, but none of them really are. We've got another week or two yet before we get to where they need to be conditioning-wise."

Reporter to Roy Williams: What do you attribute to the drops vs the Giants? Williams: "Who had a drop? I had a drop? I didn't have a drop."

Roy Williams: "I think the DB made a great play to knock it out as soon as it got into my hands so I didn't drop the ball."

Roy Williams to reporter: "You said I had another (drop) too?" Reporter: Yes. Williams to reporter: "I'll catch it next time coach."

Roy Williams on the notion he's out of shape: "My fault media. I'm a sarcastic guy. I like to smile a lot so I won't do that anymore."

What a tool.

The best thing to do would be to stop expecting anything more of Williams than a role-playing, bits-n-pieces kind of guy.

He'll be booed, partially because he's not very good, and partially because some people think he's coming in here to "revive his career" or "recapture past glory."

He's coming here to die, and to make a couple plays here & there. Based on the last Cutler interview I heard, Jay certainly isn't thinking of him as his "new key target" or anything of the sort.

He's just a guy, regardless of his past successes and failures.

Why is the bolded a reason to boo someone?

Posted

Took 2 preseason games for the guy to fall out of favor with the coaches, fans and media. Nice.

We had 2 weak spots on the team to address and 30 million to address them and we end up probably making no improvement in either. How can that possibly happen?

Unrealistic expectations.

I don't see how it's unrealistic for him to get back to his 04-07 numbers while playing in the same system he played in for those years. He has yet to see his 30th birthday and his ceiling has always been higher than his production.

I agree that there will be booing though. Chicago fans have a horrible history of singling out certain players to hate and most of the time that hate is unwarranted (Grossman, Bradley, Soriano, Cutler, etc.). Unfortunately I think Roy Williams is the next guy to add to this list for several reasons, most of which have already been discussed here. The only way he'll avoid it is by having a Pro Bowl season, which is unlikely.

By the way, I hope Grossman gets that starting job in Washington and lights it up.

That's what I mean. There will be a segment of the fan base who will expect to see peak Roy Williams, and if/when they don't get it, he'll be singled out. We've seen it happen in the past, it just feels like RW is the next in line for that kind of treatment, unfortunately.

Eh, I don't mind having him on the team. I figure whatever he can give us will be a bonus. The biggest issue I see are the drops. If he can limit those, I'll be good. I don't think Martz will tolerate it for long -- he'll be out of there if he can't hold on to the ball.
