Mark Appel sent down to extended spring training. Luhnow said Appel isn't injured.

He's been extremely hittable. I think we dodged a bullet there. Gray hasn't been great so far this year either, for that matter.

Ehh...it's really one start screwing up Gray's stats. He's had two consecutive really good starts and his K and BB numbers are nice.

@keithlaw: Heard Dodgers' top prospect LHP Julio Urias, has been fighting shoulder soreness this month. He skipped a start, then walked 4 in 0.2 IP.

Joey Gallo is having a hysterical year at high-A.

.317/.434/.744 with 9 HR 20/28 BB/K in 82 at bats. So 57 of his 106 plate appearances have been a homer, walk or strikeout.

What are the Red Sox going to do with Mookie Betts? The guy is absolutely destroying AA ball to the tune of a .407/.459/.651 1.110 OPS. He has only struck out 8 times in 96 plate appearances while walking 10 times. He has also stolen 10 bases while being caught once. He's blocked at 2B behind Pedroia and Bogaerts is blocking him at 3B.

Man, 4 of the first 40 picks. RIP, old CBA

EDIT: To stay on topic a bit, Archie Bradley went on the DL today with elbow trouble, proof that everything is out to get Kevin Towers and the world makes sense once more.

Interesting read on prospect rankings and how they've improved in recent years: http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/75214320/major-league-baseball-draft-success-improving-baseball-america#!M5oxN

Jim Callis, John Manuel, Keith Law and Jason Parks were all quoted.

I've theorized that this might be the case which is why I don't buy that the bust rates going back 25 or 30 years on prospect lists are really all that accurate.

Are they really getting better at ranking prospects or are teams getting better at not [expletive] them up? The old ways of doing things in baseball have been dying for about the same amount of time that this study looks at.

It's probably a little of both.

Daniel (Katy,Texas): Do you remember another great pitching prospect with such command as j. Gray? It,s really impressive

Matt Eddy: Rockies RHP Jon Gray is walking 1.2 batters per nine at Double-A Tulsa this season, which if it holds would shatter the ~2.5 BB/9 rates that 2010 Strasburg and 2002 Prior had the year after they were drafted. Maybe it’s time to start thinking of Gray in those terms.

Joey Gallo, man

.345/.451/.791

28/43 BB/K in 139 AB. In high A at 20. 17 home runs.

How fun would it be to have him and Bryant batting 3-4 in a lineup?
