Offensive SS, will likely get moved off of the position. Contact issues and plus power. Intriguing pick. High ceiling, low floor.

Vitters 2.0?

Vitters didn't have contact issues.

Vitters also had 30-35 HR power potential. Baez's swing seems to be more line drive-oriented.

Vitters has issues because he frequently makes such great contact

Dumb question, but how many rounds are there in the MLB draft?

50, but teams frequently stop picking some time before then.

Why 50?

Each team has 6 minor league teams to fill...

Baez has plus power in his own right, his biggest detracts are his fielding and his makeup. Kind of lets things affect him on the field negatively sometimes.

I wouldn't call it great

Well, you certainly aren't obligated to

So far today, I've read that Baez's best attributes are:

Power Potential

Bat

Fielding

And his worst attributes are:

Power Potential

Bat

Fielding

Attitude

Someone tell me why Baez is a better pick than say Mahtook?

Possibility of sticking at SS or being an above average defensive 2B/3B. Fastest bat in the draft per BA with raw power to go along with it. One of the higher upsides in this draft.

Honestly Vance, I think most would just say "higher upside" at this point.

so, we've established that the draft lasts 50 rounds, here's another not so smart question...how many days does the draft last?

Mahtook is the classic low ceiling, high floor type. Safe, but wont be a difference maker. We can buy these guys in free agency every year.

Baez has the chance to be something really special... the bat speed is unreal. He probably wont stick at short, but there's still some very good upside with him.

I know I'm a homer for Mahtook. He's just a safe pick and a guy that I'm damn certain will be a solid major league guy.

I can live with Baez. I just hope he matches his "upside."

Nimmo is going to cost a pretty penny - I wonder if the Mets are banking on rolling that pick to next year?

Would that be smart? I was under the impression that next year's class is significantly weeker.
