Yeah, those two wins will also be huge at tournament time.

I'm not sure if you mean at selection time or if you mean actually when playing tourney games. But I don't know how the 2 big wins will even matter at tourney time. With these 2 wins, IU should probably win every home game they play this year. They should beat most of the teams they play on the road also. Even if they lose 1 home game, and all of at Purdue, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Ohio St....they're still a 25 win team.

Yep, you are right. Part of me can't believe it still. IU is not only going to make the tournament but they should have a good seed as well.

Weber can't coach talented players. He plays a grinding style of basketball that is best suited to mid major play because you have time to develop guys over a few years because everybody stays for at least 4 years and there's not pressure to succeed every year.

I also think these guys aren't listening to him anymore. The Mike and Mike years cost him all respect and authority over the players and he's just not getting his message across anymore.

I'm not sure Illinois is even that good of a job right now. At this point I don't think we can attract anyone better than Weber. He's got a .700 win percentage and took Illinois the furthest it had ever been in the tournament. He's performed to the historical norm at Illinois. If we do fire him, there better be a damn good replacement waiting in the wings.

[expletive]. he's won 2 tourney games in 6 years (and that's being generous and counting dee and augie's last year on the team), his predecessor had won 6 in 3 years. all told, we won 13 tournament games in the 5 years preceding this craptastic failure. he couldn't ride a prevailing wave that could have cemented illinois as a major power in college basketball for years. he's got people like you pointing to his overall record, skewed greatly by his first 2 years, and claiming that beating teams like coppin state is something to be proud of. weber has failed, he's a failure, let's admit it and call it what it is and stop hoping that he can just pull it together.

the job is a very good job, a second tier job, but a job that could be first tier with the right hire. as i've said, chris mack is about ripe for the picking, get him before someone else does. right the wrong we committed when we passed over matta.

Sulley I want to know more about Chris Mack, I've always wanted a black coach as I think it would help with the CPL big time. But, at this point I'm ready to be won over. He'll I'd take anything over Bruce Weber.

Quit being a [expletive], it's still a very good job. It will always be a good job because of the proximity to Chicago. You can't be afraid the next guy will be worse and continue to suck. Who would be worse, Dave Bliss?

IU with another test coming up on Thursday night against Michigan. Hoping that Sheehey can come back and get some minutes. I had said earlier that I'd be happy with a1-2 start, but I changed my mind after they beat OSU. I think IU will be very tough to beat at home, the test will be how they do on the road.

Michigan St and NC State games showed me that they can win on the road. I know they didn't win at MSU, but they got down big and made a good game of it. If they beat the teams they are better than on the road, they'll be fine.

Luke Fischer decided after the game to commit. Not a star, but IU has been on him for a while. Cream has had good success with under the radar type guys in Oladipo and Sheehey.

Nice. With Zeller likely being at least a 3-year guy and next year's class, adding a 3rd top 125-150 player to the 2013 class will produce some quality depth.

Mack is from Cincy and is a Xavier grad. He has a consistent top 20ish program. I don't know that he would leave for Illinois.

i bet he would. there aren't going to be any openings at any top programs anytime soon and xavier is not a destination job. illinois is a big ten program that gets plenty of publicity, regularly gets top 100 recruits of the 4-star variety, and is getting a renovation job on the assembly hall.

furthermore, mike thomas is from cincinnati and i'm sure knows mack well.

the last 2 coaches left for illinois-type programs, also. as far as the alumni thing, i don't see that as that big of a factor when we're talking xavier. it didn't stop lickliter (butler being a very comparable school to xavier) from going to iowa, and iowa ain't illinois.

illinois is still seen as a very good job, no matter how much iowa folks would like to deny it.

i don't see a black coach helping us with recruiting in chicago unless he's a former public league coach or something. those guys are very clique-y. oliver purnell is doing ok there, but he was at once ostracized when he told those coaches he wouldn't make sure they get paid. purnell, after all, runs a clean program. he's made inroads since then, but just because he's black doesn't endear him to those guys. they want guys who are willing to do whatever it takes to get the kids, regardless of color.

I now know how fans of other teams feel when Michigan beats them by hitting tons of 3's.

Michigan has been outplaying Minnesota this whole game but is only up 1 because Minnesota keeps throwing up insane 3's and hitting them to stay in the game.

BTW, Trey Burke is awesome. And he's only a freshman. If UM can convince Hardaway to comeback for his junior year, Burke, Hardaway and McGary would make a pretty nice nucleus to challenge for the Big Ten title.

man, i'm loving Trey Burke these days; great to win against a good opponent even when Hardaway and Smotrycz aren't contributing anything offensively

27 pts on 8 shots, not bad for a 3 star frosh
