Bruce on ESPN radio today said he lead us to the best 9 years in the history of Illinois.

 

Well there's no denying the first three were fun.

 

 

I actually defended Bruce up until recently, but he was decidedly mediocre once he ran out of Self's kids.

Why should we give a rat's ass about Weber beyond what players he left behind? Even with loss of Leonard and possibly Paul, the cupboard isn't exactly bare. We don't really know what Shaw, Langford, Egwu are capable of but, they're all four star recruits, I suspect Groce' style of play is going to be very benefical to their talents. I don't think it's a stretch that they'll have a better record next year along with not losing to the likes of Penn St and Nebraska, seemed to me Weber' system lent itself to a lesser talented teams dictating the tempo and hanging in there.

Yes. I have a couple good friends who were football players at KSU during the glory years under Snyder. They are beside themselves at this hire. They want Currie gone before Bill retires and he gets to hire Ron Zook to replace him. Not pretty.

I'm expecting a better record next year. If Groce favors an uptempo,slashing, guard-centric style, we'll be in very good shape to run it with the current roster. There's plenty of talent still left. It was just buried and misused.

I think it had everything to do with the type of players he recruited and his style of communication. I think he'll always struggle with elite type athletes because they don't want to grind games out like his less skilled players in the past have been able to. I think he just fell into the perfect storm with Deron, Dee, and Luther where they were both very good athletes/basketball players and also had very high basketball IQs. I think his coaching style and a less intelligent brand of player was his undoing the last several years because when he had a less skilled, more basketball intelligent guy like Frazier running the point, they were relatively successful.
