Told that he had elbow issues, Baker smiled shyly and said, “Who are they going to blame for that one?” Baker, of course, is forever being accused (wrongfully) of ruining pitchers’ arms with overuse or misuse. Another reporter that Dusty has in his back pocket.

Dusty probably gets something thrown at him from the dugout too. Whether it may help your team indirectly or not, saying it's great news is nothing short of classless. And to me, a manager should be held to higher standards than players to begin with. I'm not even sure Ozzie would have made those remarks.

“I really hate to see that. He is not only a good pitcher, but he seems like a fine young man, too. Every time I saw him or talked to him, he seemed very polite and respectful."

Crap, I had read somewhere that he had gotten off the phone with Darren and was saying," my best scout gave me some great news" or something to that effect. Hell, maybe I imagined it? I take back what I said on Dusty if this was his actual quote obviously.

Edit: That quote is from the same article that Fro posted and it has both quotes from Baker. I guess the first one talking to his son could be construed differently than how I took it, as Baker making fun or light of the injury.

Ozzie would say the same thing, but it would have a couple of fbombs in it.

I'm afraid to say anything about this out of fear that one of our top 3 will suffer a season-ending injury before April.

damn the central is going so suck serious ass this year

brewers definitely look like the favorites at this point.

83 wins takes the division again?

83-85 wins may take the division, but it won't be because it sucks. This is the best it's been a long time.

huh? how can it not suck if 83-85 might take it?

also, 2008-

Cubs 97-64

Brewers 90-72

Astros 86-75

Cards 86-76

i think you mean it's the most competitive it's been in a while.

Maybe so, but I think the top four teams are (or can easily be) pretty good. It's going to be a pretty tough division.

Im suddenly feeling pretty confident about this team, at least within the divison. Dusty lead teams have a habit of crashing and burning after a postseason appearence. As for the Brewers, you have to like that rotation, but the entire offense is incredibly streaky and inconsistant, plus you have a very rocky bullpen, and 3 blatent black holes in the lineup at CF, SS, and C.

As for the Cubs, you have a solid rotation, a potentially shut down bulpen if they can stay healthy, and while we dont have a Pujols, Braun, or Votto, we have capble bats 1-8, even a DeWitt/Baker platoon is better than most 8 spots in the NL, plus if Quade can look past the grittyness of Koyie Hill and Fernando Perez and puts Reed Johnson and Max Ramirez in their place, we have a very solid bench as well. And of course the Hendry factor, if its close in July, he can pull off a big trade, which the Brewers likely cant do after emptying out the farm for Greinke and Marcum.

Sadly, one the playoffs arrive, I fully expect the NL Central representative to be dispatched of as quickly as it has since 2007.

Well it's official now.

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak confirmed Thursday that Adam Wainwright will undergo Tommy John surgery.

And apparently Dr. Nick Riviera will be performing the operation (well, the team doctor, who seems to have a less than stellar reputation).

Surprised a more well regarded surgeon (Yocum or Andrews) isn't doing it.

They have to cut corners somewhere if they're going to be able to afford Pujols.

And it's been a few years, so probably funeral costs as well.

Did I go too far?

Hancock did them a favor and self-cremated.

Paletta has gotten a bad rap, but he's very highly regarded. He did the 2nd surgery I had on my shoulder and while its not ever going to be 100%, its markedly better than it was after the first time I had it fixed. He's actually a pretty cool guy too.

All the stuff I want to say will either get me in trouble, or not be half as witty as I wish it was.

So I'll say nothing, other than to re-state the obvious: the Cardinals' bid to re-take the division just took a pretty big blow today.
