That's what you guys get for signing Hunter Hillenmeyer after he was on our practice squad several years ago.

REVENGE.

No reason to even play the game now.

Also, when I started watching football, one of my favorite players was John Jurkovich. He was on WTMJ this morning and picked the Bears to win. He's now dead to me. At least I still have Bryce Paup.

Of course he did. He's a Chicago radio personality.

Yeah, I didn't know that until this morning.

I had no idea Jurko was a packer

Actually had a decent season as a NT in 93 for them: 40Tkl, 5.5 Sk, 1 FF.

I'm sure he's still crying because he doesn't get to hang off of Eli Manning's overrated, pick-throwing testes in the playoffs.

what does this even mean?

that Eli should move to The Land Down Under

I've come across 5 really good ads on craigslist for tickets so far today, but I haven't been able to pounce fast enough. Rats.

TO, Strahan trashing Cutler.

http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2011/01/to-strahan-team-up-to-trash-color-blind-cutler.html

Strahan is such a piece of [expletive]. I'm sure he's still crying because he doesn't get to hang off of Eli Manning's overrated, pick-throwing testes in the playoffs.

The misconception that most of America has is that Cutler makes mistakes when you pressure him. If that was the case, why did he throw 26 INTs when sacked 35 times in 2009, but only threw 16 when he was sacked 52 times this year (1 every 21 throws in 09 vs. 1 ever 27 throws this year right around his career average)? Also, he threw 8 INTs in the 7 games he was sacked at least 4 times this year. He threw 8 in the 8 games he was sacked less than 4 times in. The problem has never been Jay being afraid or antsy at the sight of pressure (ala Grossman), the problem is he makes bad decisions.

Has it hit anybody yet that if we win this Sunday we're in the Super Bowl again? Because it hasn't really hit me.

I guess my mind is hung up on this game so much that I'm blinded to all the hoopla that will follow if we win.

I know, the fact that this is for the Super Bowl is almost completely meaningless now to me. Its just that we must. win. this. game. I don't even know why now.

If this NFC Championship was vs literally any other team, perhaps not the Vikings, I'd say, fine whatever, this season has been a success regardless, we took a crap team, made it good and made the NFC Championship game. Everything else is gravy.

But now this means everything.

The Bears are nondescript nationally.

You know how certain teams in the NFL have their own dedicated reporter from ESPN (i.e. Werder and Sal for Dallas and Philly)? The Bears would never ever have that.

I've always said the Bears national imprint is not commensurate with having the largest unshared market in the country.

The Bears national imprint is very large. They might not have a Sal Palentonio, who is a Philly guy because he's from Philly, but they will always attract one of the largest audiences in primetime. They are one of the biggest draws in Vegas as well. They were more or less a non-entity for 1.5 decades and when they splashed on the scene 4 years ago it was with defense, and very short lived. If Chicago turns into a consistent contender with offense, they will be as marketable as any team in American sports.

Its really bizarre. As soon as the Bears are good they pull enormous numbers on primetime games (Eagles game, the Patriots game), yet they still don't really have a dedicated reporter from ESPN. Theres Michael Smith...sometimes.

Both Packers and Bears fans should be pissed the NFL Live spent more time commiserating about the Patriots losing than on pregame for this game.

There's a whole lot of guys at ESPN with Chicago roots. Michael Smith, Phil Rogers, Michael Wilbon, Mike Ditka, Mike Greenberg, and Gene Wojciechowski, just to name a few. Plus the first regionalized ESPN site was ESPNChicago.com, and that has it's own crop of Chicago folks, like Melissa Isaacson and Bruce Levine.

That may not be what you want, but Chicago certainly is not without ESPN representation.

I wonder how much of it is because the Bears try to stay away from controversy most of the time.

Other than the annual QB hatefest, what is there to talk about? There's no TO. No Vick. No Dallas soap opera (which is certainly not dampened Jerry Jones -- he likes it).

The Bears like to run a quiet ship.

And you're right, ESPN has dedicated some resources to Chicago. Also, most mornings on Mike & Mike you can hear guys like Mike Ditka -- and they always give him a chance to talk purely Chicago sports.

They cover the Bears. They don't necessarily like the Bears. But they cover them.

That said, I'd still rather listen/watch local Chicago coverage of the teams, homeristic as it may be.

A large part is the personality of the coaches and players. Bears got a lot more national attention when they had colorful characters like Ditka, Payton, McMahon, Fridge, McMichael, etc. Guys like Jauron, Wannstedt, and Lovie aren't media darlings like some other coaches (Rex Ryan).

We've already talked about how Cutler doesn't engage the media. Peppers isn't a rah rah type of guy. Briggs is very entertaining to talk to, but he's not the defacto star of the D. Urlacher is, and he isn't even all that great to talk to. But when Urlacher was running thru banging celebrity women (Paris Hilton), the Bears got more attention then.

Most of the attention in the NFL is paid to teams that provide soundbites (jets) or have compelling personalities that can't be found elsewhere (Cowboys, Colts, Pats), or have compelling stories attached to them (Eagles, Saints, Falcons). The Packers are getting the attention now because they are the flavor of the month.

My wife and I were saying last night how they seem to mic up just about every coach in the league for NFL network, but they never seem to mic up Lovie. Either he doesn't want to, or they find him to uninteresting...

I love the sentiment that you can't watch a show because it comes on ESPN. NFL Live isn't a good show, but it's still football. Plus, it comes on at a time when there ain't [expletive] else to watch.

1. Eli Manning is overrated

2. Eli Manning throws a lot of interceptions (or "picks")

3. Michael Strahan loves Eli Manning (i.e., "[strahan] hangs off of [Eli's]nuts")

4. "Nuts" is slang for testes

5. Michael Strahan is upset that the Giants (Eli Manning's team) are not in the playoffs

Maybe I should've said something along the lines of "I'm sure Strahan is just pissed because he can't kiss Eli Manning's overrated, pick-throwing ass in the playoffs."

:D

Exactly. NFL Network blows the [expletive] out of whatever coverage is on ESPN.

This article hits this point from an advertising perspective. This team flies below the radar, just like their coach (I like the description of him as a "laconic wet blanket").

Speaking of NFL Network, on Sound FX last night they showed Anthony Adams doing this hilarious crazy dance in the middle of a circle of Bears before the Seahawks game. Funny stuff.

What are the good shows? I've only watched when they've broadcasted Thursday Night Football and it kinda sucked.
