I wonder how much of it is because the Bears try to stay away from controversy most of the time.

Other than the annual QB hatefest, what is there to talk about? There's no TO. No Vick. No Dallas soap opera (which is certainly not dampened Jerry Jones -- he likes it).

The Bears like to run a quiet ship.

Let's not forget the Tank Johnson/Cedrid Benson era, when the media spent a heck of a lot of time talking about the Bears. The McCaskeys understandably do not like that stuff. Add in the talk of Grossman/Orton partying, Urlacher knocking up strippers and Briggs driving a little poorly and Chicago had a decent list of controversy surrounding them. But they shut that stuff up. Urlacher does not seek attention. Briggs talked of wanting to be THE GUY on a new team but settled for being a fantastic sidekick. The Bears have a quiet owner (no Jerry Jones or Snyder), a quiet GM (no Parcells) a quiet coach (no Rex Ryan), a quiet QB (no Peyton), a quiet RB, no star receivers, therefore quiet receivers. They've made an effort to not be the Bengals and not allow the hints of ugliness post Super Bowl to carry over into the future. The Chicago Bears have made an effort not to be hyped like crazy. They also get criticized by the media for that since they supposedly don't exploit the brand as much as they do.

Almost always when NFL live is on, there is a similar show but better on the NFL network

Exactly. NFL Network blows the [expletive] out of whatever coverage is on ESPN.

Most of the time, NFL Network is showing top 10 QBs with the last name J.

What are the good shows? I've only watched when they've broadcasted Thursday Night Football and it kinda sucked.

Everything but their broadcasts is head and shoulders above everything on ESPN. You get lots of NFL films stuff, and a decent daily news show. NFL Replay is also awesome since you get the NFL films snippets thrown in. Obviously, their broadcasts suck. They get the worst games because the networks aren't going to give up a game that's worth a damn, and when they do like 4-5 of these a year, they aren't going to allocate a ton of resources to making these 4 or 5 broadcasts of crap bottom of the barrel games very good.

BTW, the only thing worth a damn on ESPN is that playbook or whatever show that's on at 3 or 4 AM.

Maybe in the summer... When they have stuff to cover, they cover it well.

Because I feel like it, here are the Super Bowl seed matchups since the NFL expanded the playoffs to 6 teams per conference in 1990:

1990: Buffalo (1) v. NY Giants (2)

1991: Buffalo (1) v. Washington (1)

1992: Buffalo (4) v. Dallas (2)

1993: Buffalo (1) v. Dallas (1)

1994: San Diego (2) v. San Francisco (1)

1995: Pittsburgh (2) v. Dallas (1)

1996: New England (2) v. Green Bay (1)

1997: Denver (4) v. Green Bay (2)

1998: Denver (1) v. Atlanta (2)

1999: Tennessee (4) v. St. Louis (1)

2000: Baltimore (4) v. NY Giants (1)

2001: New England (2) v. St. Louis (1)

2002: Oakland (2) v. Tampa Bay (1)

2003: New England (1) v. Carolina (3)

2004: New England (2) v. Philadelphia (1)

2005: Pittsburgh (6) v. Seattle (1)

2006: Indianapolis (3) v. Chicago (1)

2007: New England (1) v. NY Giants (5)

2008: Pittsburgh (2) v. Arizona (4)

2009: Indianapolis (1) v. New Orleans (1)

So, no matter what happens this weekend, there will be a new seed matchup, since there has never been a 2 v 2, a 2 v 6, or a 6 v 6 matchup in any Super Bowl since the playoff expansion.

Still, it's stupid to rag on someone for watching something on ESPN. The NFL network top 10s are pretty stupid for the most part too.

What do you expect them to show all day? It's the same thing with all of the league networks. They have to fill the crappy time slots and the offseasons with something.

Not complaining about what NFL shows, just about people who shun anyone that watches ESPN at any time.

I'm going to find you a new hobby.

I haven't heard/seen anyone draw personal conclusions to it.

Their commentary is really dumb, a large percentage of the time. That doesn't mean someone who watches it is dumb. But there are better options to watch, in my estimation, and it's a fair point to bring up.

Anyone else's work having a Bears dress code?

Our work is letting people dress in Bears gear for free, but if you want to dress in Packers gear you have to pay $5 (put into a party fund). I love it

Our work went to casual dress code about 2 years ago...so every Friday during the season I wear a Bears jersey.

That's awesome. Times like these I wish I still lived up there. Last time the Bears were in the SB I drove home to watch the game with friends from high school. Hopefully will be reprising that in a few weeks.

We can wear Packer stuff on Packer game days. I'll be rockin' my long-sleeve T that day.

Is it camo?

Nope. Nor is it that godawful blaze orange, either. It's regular Packers colors.

I never really thought about comparing Jay Cutler and Ben Roethlisberger.

I do quite a bit. Big QBs that move well, with bad offensive lines. Ben has better weapons and a consistently better defense throughout his career to get to where he's been.

Chan Gailey, whose Bills lost to the 4 teams left in the playoffs, assesses each of the QB's.

I never really thought about comparing Jay Cutler and Ben Roethlisberger. That's weird but I guess his points make sense. I think Jay has a better arm though and relies on it.

He was careful to qualify his comments about Rodgers, but I still think he failed to recognize how much Rodgers can/will make plays with his legs. I guess that isn't all that unusual though.

I did find the comparison between Cutler/Roeth to be a little strange, as well. I don't see the two as very similar.

Anyway -- I'm getting amped up for this weekend. I think we've got 2 really good games to watch, with some great matchups and a lot of great fan support for all 4 teams.

Should be a lot of fun. The NFL is awesome.
