Expectations for 2011 declining rapidly.

Niners fans think the franchise just scored Belichick. Good luck with Kyle Orton next season.

I don't blame them for being excited.

And they've been running that operation with much worse than Orton for the past several years.

Who knows? I'll just say if I was a fan of team that resembled the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust for the past several years, I'd be pretty excited about the possibilities right now.

Nnambi Asomugha is now an unrestricted FA. His contract voided because he didn't eclipse some incentives that were considered damn near impossible for him to miss. He can't be franchised either, so whenever FA starts, one of, if not THE best CB in the league will be available.

How much money would he demand? The Bears will probably cut Tommie, Manumaleuna, and Taylor but I don't know if they have enough to get Asomugha.

I'd love for the Bears to find a way to add him, but if he leaves Oakland, I think we're talking about someone giving him "Peppers" money. That said, in listening to him in interviews, he doesn't sound like the "mercenary" type guy that's going to go somewhere for the most money. In fact, with his California roots, even though he's a FA, I think he'll stay in Oakland myself. I don't think he really wants to leave there.

It's looking like Ron Rivera will be the new hire for the Panthers. Meh.

Rivera's the guy I wanted during our coaching hire when we ultimately ended up hiring McCarthy. That was the year before the Bears reached the Super Bowl. Since then, he's really beefed up his resume. I'm not really sure who's a better candidate out there than Rivera, if you're going to go the coordinator route. You could certainly do a lot worse than him.

Indy fans, any chance Caldwell gets fired for the inexplicable timeout and his insane explanation?

I can understand why you're not excited about the hire but I think you'll grow to like him and he'll do a good job (obviously, considering the circumstances).

I would be stunned. The Colts are typically not reactionary like that no matter how much it might be deserved.

Pat Shurmur likely to be hired as HC of the Browns and the Rams would hire Josh McDaniels as OC.

Damn. I don't like the guy but I'd feel much more confident in the Vikings developing a QB with him.

Some speculation that Garrett wants Univ of Tenn coach Charlie Baggett for the position.

Dew, what can you tell me about him?

He's taught some really, really good WRs over the years. Randy Moss, Plaxico, Holt, Bruce, Cris Carter, Chris Chambers, Muhsin Muhammad, Derrick Mason all learned from Baggett either in college or the NFL. Guys like Justin Hunter and DeAnthony Arnett have talked highly of Baggett as well.

Outside of Jim Chaney, he's the assistant I'd most hate for Tennessee to lose.

I like Rivera, he's clearly the sensible hire, especially considering the organization is such a train wreck right now that a surefire #1 pick basically decided he'd rather be in college than play for us. I just won't really believe things will improve much until we get some smart front office people.

David White of the San Francisco Chronicle wrote on Twitter Monday that he believes Asomugha will end up with the Jets or Packers.

“I know him well. . . . Mark it down,” White said.

So those are apparently the teams Asomugha wants to play for. Considering the money Packers G.M. Ted Thompson has invested in Charles Woodson and Tramon Williams, Asomugha probably won’t get his wish.

So Asomugha like to wear the color green?

i can't really think of two teams that have committed more resources towards their CBs, really

Why not prefer teams that pay cornerbacks?

Because they likely have less money to pay a cornerback at this point, because they already have so much money tied up in that position.

Yeah, but he's a cornerback who sees just a handful of teams that actually spend a ton on cornerbacks. He's not going to want to go to New England. And since none of those contracts are guaranteed, and the Jets can just cut Cromartie or GB could cut somebody they could conceivably make room. It's not that ridiculous for him to prefer teams that seemingly emphasize paying cornerbacks.

Well no...it's not ridiculous. We'd all prefer to work where we could make a ton of money. But it may not be especially realistic.
