I'm loving that Brett Favre's career is crashing down around him in spectacular fashion.

The Vikings would have a better record with Jackson so far this year. Not only did the Vikings pay Favre $20 million for nothing, but he can created a firestorm of controversy and will probably wind up getting his coach fired.

He is the only reason why his coach got a contract extension in the first place.

Yep. And that was so stupid because everyone knew Childress is mediocre. Favre's career was nearly over, so why renew Childress? My only guess is that they wanted Favre for a little longer and they thought that continuity would make him stay. That probably worked, but you are still left with a bad coach.

"Childress said Monday that he had allowed Moss to stay in Boston after the game for a few days but an NFL source said it was Moss who informed the team he would be staying out East." What? Moss was planning on skipping the day after a game where they watch video to stay out east? Who does that?

Moss. That might have been the final strike. Combine it with the stuff he did in the locker room and at practice last week, plus his laziness in the game and the postgame stuff and Childress thought he had to do it.

I guess I have to give credit to Childress for having some stones to make the move on his own. When he told the team about the move he said his superiors could fire him over it but he was making the move regardless. It's crazy and might cost him his only shot at a head job, but it takes some balls.

They went from 6 to 8 to 10 wins and a division title in his first three years and even before the Favre move, he was going to have his most talented team ever last year and probably make the playoffs again.

I've never been a big Childress fan as an in-game coach but he's done a great job of assembling talent and assembling coaching talent. He hired Tomlin who was a d-backs coach to be his first def. coordinator and a year later he was the Steelers head coach. Then Frazier was another secondary coach and he's had like 6 head coach interviews. He has a huge say in personnel and in the draft and has done a great job there.

People have said his teams have been loaded the last few years and use that to say he's not a great coach but he's brought in 15 of the starters. Would be nice to just keep him around in the front office and make Leslie Frazier the head coach.

everyone who bashed on the eagles for trading mcnabb (to a divisional opponent, OMG!!!) can go shove it. he hasn't been good and both of the guys the eagles have played at QB have been better than him. the eagles have always been good at deciding when to get rid of veteran players.

The Eagles have had a lot more talent around Kolb/Vick compared to McNabb in Washington to be fair.

Just because one guy is an idiot doesn't mean the whole fan base is.

Oh I know. I should have worded what I said a bit differently. I was basically referring to the Bears-Packers MNF game thread. Some of the hatred for the Bears became so obvious it was funny. I don't like the Packers, but I can still have respect for their fans, especially if most of the fans on a board I'm posting on are Packers fans.

Plus the offense is a fair amount different, right? Or has Shanahan adapted it?

As is the team’s custom on Fridays, a local food establishment was invited to the training facility to serve a catered, post-practice meal in the locker room. In this case, a St. Paul restaurant that is a favorite of former Vikings center Matt Birk(notes). As the proprietors helped serve chicken, ribs, pasta and other dishes to Vikings players, Moss paced up and down the serving line and loudly expressed his displeasure with the offerings.

According to one player who witnessed the scene, Moss yelled, “What the [expletive]? Who ordered this crap? I wouldn’t feed this to my dog!”

Said the witness: “It was brutal. The truth is, he deserved to be cut after that. It was such an uncomfortable moment. You know that feeling where you just can tell someone feels so small? That’s what it was like being there.

“This wasn’t a chain – it was a mom-and-pop restaurant, and you could tell it was their best stuff. They had a special carving station set up, and there were players and other support staff lining up to eat it. And [Moss] is at his locker saying, ‘You know, I used to have to eat that crap – but now I’ve got money.’ You just felt so sad for them. I had never seen anyone treated like that.

“And by the way, the food was actually really good.”

Moss is such a dick. He, Deion Sanders, and Brett Favre are the only NFL players I've ever wished career-ending injuries on. And I'd laugh like hell.

lol...they're dicks, and you're the one wishing physical harm. Not saying you're wrong, just thought it was amusingly phrased.

I can see your point there. i did phrase it incorrectly. But I detest guys who have it all and are incredibly ungrateful, or who feel the need to draw constant attention to themselves.

I love how Packers fans just loathe Favre now. Makes me laugh.

It happens. If it would have been Sandberg or Sosa or someone who did the same thing that Favre did only to end up in St. Louis just to stick it to us, Cubs fans would have felt the same way.

What did Favre do? GB wanted him to retire, right?

I don't know the full story on if he wanted to retire or if they forced him out, but the fact of the matter is that he went before the world and announced that he was quitting. I heard the Packers brass wanted a decision one way or the other and didn't want any of this wishy-washy "will I or won't I retire" crap that he did the previous several offseasons before he actually did so they could go through with offseason and draft plans.

I figured that if he retired, he voluntarily gave up his spot, and therefore had no right to ask for it back or be pissed that he didn't get it back once they made it clear they were going with Aaron Rodgers after he retired. If I quit my job and then wanted it back three weeks later, I'd be told "tough crap, you shouldn't have quit" and I hold Favre to the same standard.

This entire process, from the time he "came back" was simply so he could land in Minnesota so he could stick it to us. He didn't want to do anything more than show up the Packers. It was 100% out of spite and nothing else.

i think it's pretty reasonable for packer fans to not like favre.

It's understandable. But in the way that everybody hates Favre. He really didn't do anything to GB. To compare it to other people that we would all turn on if it happened is odd. They wanted him to retire so they could start on the Rodgers era before his rookie contract ended without knowing if they should reinvest in him. It's a specific situation because QB is a position that only one guy can play and the QB can't play another position. It's not like a starting pitcher being pushed aside for another starting pitcher, or a corner outfielder making room for another bat out there. Even a position like catcher allows for two different people to play with regularity. You can conceivably keep your old guys while you introduce your new guys.

Favre was their starting QB and they didn't want to lose Rodgers. The did what they could to move past Favre and start anew. Favre wanted to keep playing. So he did. He's annoying as hell but he didn't really do anything to GB.

False.

When Favre initially started having second thoughts about coming back, McCarthy and Thompson immediately got on a plane to fly to Mississippi to meet with him. IIRC, this was a week before the draft in 2008. Favre told both of them that he was officially done when they were out there and that was that. We drafted Flynn and Brohm (lol) and the rest was history. We only wanted him to retire after it was evident that he wanted to come back in July of that year because we moved on and there was no chance of him coming back to us. I remember at the time, most Packers fans (including myself) were absolutely irate that they were choosing to go the other way and not back to Favre.

The first year when he was with the Jets, I think he still had a somewhat high approval rating in Green Bay. It wasn't until the following offseason where the hate came in when it was evident that he wanted to go to Minnesota all along just to stick it to the entire organization.

When he finally retires for good, I think most Packers fans will embrace him again and elect to forget about the final three years of his career, as long as he doesn't win anything with Minnesota this season.
