If we stay the course, we probably finish 6-10 or 7-9 and Lovie is fired. If we sign Moss, we might go 8-8 or 9-7, barely miss out on the playoffs or make a WC spot and get throttled. Meanwhile, Lovie manages to stay on board because of his improvement. Can you really see signing Randy Moss ending up any better than that?

I'm not sure how signing Randy Moss gives you a clear-cut vision for the future either. It's not like he's a long term fit at WR for us. He's never played anywhere where he hasn't been let go for .50 on the dollar due to the team being fed up with his antics,

Except New England and the first time leaving Minnesota. Oakland gave up a good amount for him.

I'm not positive 7-9 means Lovie is gone. It wasn't the case last year, and with the CBA looming, it's not clear cut this year. I'd rather take the risk that teams have to adjust their defense and the Bears sneak away with 10 wins this year and maybe win a playoff game. That's a hell of a lot better than the last three years.

If you trade for Randy Moss you have to know that stuff is coming, so to release him for being Randy Moss shows a terrible lack of foresight.

I think its more like at 1-3, it was worth risking putting up with his crap to desperately stay in contention. But at 2-5 its less worth it. Especially with Rice probably coming back eventually.

That said, your point still stands considering they gave up a 4th for 4 weeks of him.

If the Bears snagged Moss, who would you sit? Move Hester back to full time returner, maybe?

In 2 receiver sets you'd go Moss/Knox most likely, but you can sneak Bennett and Aromashadu in on occasion and there will still be plenty of 3 and 4 receiver sets.

Teams likely to consider claiming Randy Moss on waivers: Cowboys, Redskins, Rams, Bears, Dolphins, Raiders, Chiefs, Jets, Patriots.

If Moss really wants to play for New England and they'll have him is there anything anyone can do? You can claim him, of course, but you can't make him play can you?

Moss has no say. Either sit out or play for the team that takes his claim.

Right, but if he says I'm not playing for anyone but New England would a team really pay his salary just to block the Patriots?

They wouldn't pay his salary if he chose not to play for them.

Vikings have to pay his salary regardless.

Would they still control his rights?

No. If he's claimed, the claiming team has to pay the remainder of his salary. If he goes unclaimed, then the Vikes pay it, and he's a UFA.

My question is, if you claim him, and he doesn't play can you avoid paying his salary and can you still stop him from going to another team?

I'd guess you can withhold salary like you could with any player that is holding out, but I don't know that for sure.

For what it's worth, Lombardi from NFL Network says Childress waived Moss because he didn't come back to Minnesota with the team after the game/decided to stay in Boston.

ROFL - this guy is worse than Terrell Owens.

But in Childress's press conference earlier today (about 30 min before the release), Childress said they allowed Moss to stay in Boston to visit family/friends or something.

Something isn't adding up then.
