Naming every trophy after two people is annoying and unnecessary. I can't wait to hoist the Grange-Paterno Championship Trophy. Jesus, how politically correct did they need to be with this thing? Would anyone really get their panties in that big of a wad if it was just the Grange Trophy or the Paterno Trophy?

I think it's dumb to have JoePa's name on the trophy when A) He's still alive and still an active Big 10 coach, and B) He spent the large majority of his career coaching outside the Big 10, and won all his championships before joining the conference.

It is the Stagg-Paterno championship. Paterno coached outside the big 10 most of the time and Stagg's team hasn't been in the big 10 in like a century. This is like the everybody gets a trophy syndrome times two with everybody gets a trophy named after them.

Delany made it pretty clear that they were honoring the history of the Big Ten and the Big Ten institutions. Stagg coached in the Big Ten for over 40 years and was instrumental in the development of the conference and the game. Paterno coached at Penn State, a current Big Ten school, for over 40 years, as well. That trophy makes quite a lot of sense. Both are very, very deserving. Probably more so than any other coach, includes Hayes and Schembechler.

so what are normal people going to call the divisions b/c no one is going to use those stupid names.

More improtantly, what are normal people going to call the Antwaan Randle-El trophy?

ETA: Sorry, the Thompson-Randle El trophy.

They managed to get everything wrong.

Bingo. The logo's look like they're 20+ years old. Two names for every trophy is completely unnecessary.

Then they manage to top all of that with horrendous division names. No one nationally will refer to them as "Legends" and "Leaders" with a straight face or immediately making a joke about it. They spent months and consulted with firms to come up with this?

I wonder if people are just going to call them the Ohio State and Michigan divisions, since that was the whole reason they ended up the way they did.

Looks like Nebraska picked a bad time to join the Big Ten. The only name they get is Rimington? Couldn't they have at least combined positions and handed out the Butkus-Rimington award to the best LB/OL?

Looks like the Big Ten picked a bad time to start sniffing glue.

That doesn't excuse the fact they did a horrible job attempting to do so.

Just awful.

Leaders/Legends is atrocious. I honestly can't help but thinking it's a practical joke (I know it's not). Who thought that was OK? Yeesh.

The new logo is ugly, though I'd say mainly because of the color scheme. With a better color, it would just be bland. We're the Big Ten: three yards and a cloud of dust! And our logo is ninny light blue? Really?

I like the idea of the awards being named after Big Ten greats, but two names seems overkill. It's a sop to ensure every team is represented. At worst, I'd say the awards are a good idea poorly executed. Which is way, way better than the awful division names and ugly logo.

I'm guessing it's because they have a set number of participant medals and don't want to order 1 more.

I'm fine with the logo, though I see them changing the color in a couple years. I think they wanted something that wasn't in the color scheme of any school. But they'll come to their senses that powder blue doesn't work.

The trophy names are okay, though ridiculously overboard in political correctness.

Legends and Leaders, though?!? I would have preferred "mostly north" and "mostly south" to that.

My first impression was that they were trying to make the G look like a 6, thus BIG being spelled B16

Just saying....

They're going to have to change all of this within the next year or two anyway, right? I haven't heard a single person that is actually happy with any of these changes.

What's so hard about having the divisions named East and West?

I think I may do that. Seems as logical as anything else.

So the Big Ten just spent untold thousands of dollars to have a design company type "BIG TEN" in all caps CG Times font. Sweet.

I think that's the worst part. With a bolder/stronger color, the logo is fine, if a little bland. But the color is terrible.

It's a conference logo, they all look varying degrees of lame and bland.

The real crime is the division names, and to a lesser extent the trophy names. This looks like Delany stole the draft of some message boarder who took the time to look up all the names.
