I say, let the steroids guys into the HOF but make them feel pretty miserable about it. Don't let them talk at their induction, put an asterisk on their cap instead of team logo, and make them pay an annual membership fee for their spot. That'll show em.

If you put them in and there was proof they juiced, it should be mentioned on their HOF plaque.

"Sammy Sosa hit like, a [expletive] ton of HRs. Everybody loved it, especially in 98. Turns out he used steroids, so now a bunch of self-righteous dicks like to pretend that they hated him all along, but they really loved it. In conclusion, Sammy was really [expletive] awesome, but old people will hate him because he used steroids instead of doing something more honorable like stabbing black people(see Cobb, Ty)."

Do you think they'd accept something like that?

Not like that, obviously, but an asterisk with something like "player used performance-enhancing drugs during playing career" underneath it.

Can I fly out to Cooperstown to etch the asterisk in Hank Aaron's plaque?

If you have proof he juiced, sure.

He admitted to using amphetamines.

He also had a career power surge very late in his career the same year that a couple of nobodies on his team had huge power jumps and then fell off the map, plus it has been implied by teammates that there was PED use on the team.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Aaron juiced. This stuff ("modern" steroids) probably goes back to the 60's.

You may be thinking of 1973, when Aaron, Davey Johnson, and Darrell Evans all had 40 or more HRs (in fact, Aaron's 40 was only 3rd on the team. It was definitely a career year for Johnson (his next highest season total was 18), but Evans had many other high totals (including another 40-HR year) and had 414 for his career, so nothing that year was out of the ordinary for him.

Except that he hit 40 home runs at age 39 and in only 120 games. I know it's not technically the most home runs he hit in a season, but it's pretty ridiculous.

Good work. Baseball before the 90s is still pure. That was a close call.

The purity of the game, lol. If the players from the "good old days" had access to the same performance enhancing drugs as the evil roid era players then the old timers would have certainly jumped all over that stuff too. To argue otherwise is simply obtuse. As already mentioned, we had Hank Aaron running around out there hopped up on goofballs so you really think he would have turned down some roids? Sure, if the purists want to believe that, okay then. Keep living in that insulated dream world. :good:

"I believe Andy has misheard" the conversation, Clemens responded. He said he had simply mentioned to Pettite a TV show about three older men who used HGH to get back their quality of life.

That's my favorite part of the story. Clemens' defense is, "Andy's got it all wrong. I was talking about the movie Cocoon, and he somehow misunderstood me and thought I admitted to using HGH."

Should we use a pound sign for players who never had to face minorities/foreigners/people west of the Mississippi?

Walter Johnson was from West of the Mississippi....although he's one of the only guys from that era that I know about. Oh, and Wahoo Sam Crawford too.

Yes I think Hank Aaron would not have taken an illegal substance. To argue otherwise is simply obtuse. This is all trying to protect a bunch of modern players who absolutely disrespected the game. Why cover for them?

Yeah, what would his autobiography know?

The older I get, the less I care about who is, or is not, voted into the Hall of Fame. They seem a little too self-righteous and arrogant for me.

Yay, another recruit to the dark side. It's just a giant circle jerk of already overly praised people heaping praise on one another. The fact that there is a significicant portion of the population that feels bad for guys who don't get in makes me laugh.
