Then I'd just prefer Johnson. Unless Dewitt is a much better defender. I know Johnson doesn't have a good reputation on defense, so if Dewitt is excellent that might make up the difference in offense.

When word came out that we could get him for Theriot. That's a helluva swap.

I'm use a bit skeptical about his true value and ability outside Arizona. For Theriot? Sure, but his HR number will give him a probably unwarranted salary boost.

The main upside I can see is more years of team control but nothing really sticks out to me to indicate Dewitt is the better player, although he is quite a bit younger.

He played pretty well in Atlanta, so I'm not too worried about his performance in Arizona. Plus, Theriot's going to ask for an unwarranted salary boost in arbitration in the offseason in any case, so I'd rather that money go to Johnson than him.
