Kurt Thomas is a Bulls, joining the ranks of P.J. Brown, Antonio Davis, Othello Harrington, and Malik Allen as washed up big men that act as veteran mentor on the team.

What is the cap space (from Curry's expiring + dumping a slug) going to do for New Orleans? Who's going to want to go play for the one of the worst teams in the NBA in a not so great market.

Trade flexibility mostly.

Plus owners don't want to pay any more than the bare minimum for a bad product. So that would be attractive to their ownership.

What about Joe Smith?

The Trib says Thomas is 38 and that it is a 2-year deal. The Daily Herald says he is 37 and that is is a 1-year deal.

For the record, I hate this [expletive]. He was at TCU (playing for Billy Tubbs) when I was at Texas A&M and he was a total jerkoff when we played them in College Station.

Kurt Thomas, a mentor?

OK, I don't know the guy personally, but it seems like many times when I've seen his name come up it has been in the context of him being a jagoff in some way, shape, or form.

When thinking of washed up big men who could serve as mentors, Kurt Thomas is a name that just wouldn't occur to me. At all.

Kurt Thomas is like this team's version of Charles Oakley. Kind of an enforcer that occasionally plays basketball.

Exactly. The guy is going to be the 5th big man in the Bulls interior rotation. All you're really looking for in that role is some toughness and a guy who isn't going to be a liability out there for ten minutes a game. If the alternative is Chris Richard or Josh Boone or someone along those lines, I think the Bulls did just fine here.

Thomas is 37, but will be 38 by the time the season starts. He turns 38 on October 4.

Yeah but he's also the 'holy crap omer asik kind of sucks' backup plan. Decent chance he is our backup center. Big downgrade from Noah.

I wish one of our centers was a more traditional type scorer. But I guess since we have Boozer its a little more acceptable. Can Kurt Thomas hit a midrange jumper?

What team actually has a good backup center? The Magic do. Other than that, I can't really think of a team that has one.

Thomas has made a living out of hitting baseline shots and midrange jumpers.

The Celtics will have a good backup center when Perkins gets healthy, but yeah not many teams do. I do understand the concern when Boozer hasn't been the healthiest guy in his career, and the frontcourt depth is a 38 year old and untested Euro. (Am I blanking on somebody else?)

Lorenzen Wright, a former NBA lottery pick who spent more than a decade playing professional basketball, has gone missing, WREG reports. The former NBA big man has not been seen since Sunday, and his family is reportedly "very concerned."

Police do not suspect foul play, and his home was foreclosed in May.

Well to be honest I'm not necessarily looking for "good", just adequate. We all know how awful a bad center looks like. I can't handle us giving 15 minutes a game to a stiff. Miller resigning would have made me ecstatic because I really liked the change of pace he gave vs. when Noah is out there.

I hope Thomas doesn't become Noah's primary backup. I want a legit 7 footer who can bang down there. I hope that's Asik.

Anyway, scrimmage on ESPN2 tonight at 10 EST for the US basketball team so Rose should get a good bit of run.

I think this guy's available...though Noah might end up backing HIM up.

They're only going to sign him if he's healthy and in shape. If he's both and has worked hard in the offseason to closer to where he once was, it wouldn't be the worst thing.

historically, he hasn't been an offseason workout warrior. things have changed, but i don't know how much.

Didn't McGrady complain rather loudly about playing time in Houston?

I really don't want him around if he's going to make that kind of noise on the team. He'd be support only, and I wouldn't want someone like that bitching about how he isn't starter material anymore and can't deal with it.
