kinda hoping they just tank if the alternative is a 2005 or 2009 type season. that will (hopefully) get rid of lou and hendry.

i'm also worried that if we're around .500 at the deadline that hendry will trade away good prospects for somebody to try to save his job.

now that our farm system is performing, it would be typical to have hendry put a dent in that as a parting gift before his ass is canned

You couldn't have made a worse OP OMC. You add to my misery of losing to the Astros with Shakespeare. Good God do I really hate both of those things.

Lou's announced he is changing the lineup v. lefties.

Byrd

Baker

Lee

Nady

Ramirez

Soriano

Soto

Theriot

so now the only time theriot is leading off is against RHP??!?!?!?

is really really that inept?

Maybe its just time to accept that were just a middle of the pack team in a bad division. The only way that anybody will come close to competing with the Cards is if Pujols or Holliday go down for an extended period of time. Edited by Little Slide Rooter

Vitters for Bell would be a great parting gift.

Why in the [expletive] are you dropping Ramirez below Nady??

That is stunningly dumb. Hitting lefties is the only thing Theriot does particularly well!

Maybe it's time to accept that only played 7% of the season has been played. Maybe we will end up being a middle of the pack team in a bad division, but I'd prefer to play 35-40 games before making any kind of statements about the wasted season. We're closer to 1st place than the Dodgers, Angels, Mariners, Rangers, White Sox, and Red Sox at this point in the season and many of those teams were picked to win their divisions.

I was thinking about this over the week, would it be a terrible idea to have Soto lead off? He obviously isn't a "fast typical leadoff hitter" but he is probably out most patient hitter, outside of Lee, he has already taken 7 BB and isn't hitting for all that much power, yet.

That's a very intriguing thought, which is why Lou hasn't even entertained it.

Although Oswalt and Wandy are no slouches.

Wandy

hmmm

no slouches

I...I just don't know about that, Peter

FIP of 3.62 and 3.54 the last 2 years. He's improved every year of his big league career.

He was one of the best pitchers in the NL last year, and better than Oswalt.

The give and take between my brother and I via text message regarding this game:

Him: Do we have anyone in the minors who is a closer?

Me: I don't know about closers, but we have good relievers. What happened now?

Him: Marmol blew it. Lost in 10 innings

Me: Isn't that the first run he's given up all year? Settle down Francis, we need better middle relievers our closer is fine

Him: Uh no. Nice try. Bullpen and closer suck

If you imagine him talking like a dumb jock with a breathing problem, that's pretty much how I impersonate him. The typical overreacting meathead Cubs fan. 2 weeks in and Marmol gives up his first run and he's calling for a new closer.

I kinda hate my brother. This is the same guy who thought the Alex Cintron signing was sweet because he would always pick him up off the FA list on MVP 04 and he would be good.

The Blue Jays and Pirates are above .500, while the Red Sox have lost 2/3rds of their games. Yeah, it's *very* early.

Maybe I have been drinking the koolaid still but I cannot accept we are middle of the pack in this division. Yes the homestand sucked and ended with a major shot to the gut but it is way too early to write the team off as mediocre. Are the Cubs going to have to straighten stuff out quick to compete with the Cardinals? Yes, but looking at the schedule if the Cubs offense can continue to have good at bats they should really be in good shape the first 3 games vs the Mets and face the same lineup of Brewer pitchers this weekend. Our key this week will really be the starting pitching. If Z and Wells can put together 2 quality starts then we should have a pretty lock down shot at winning those 4 games, then we need to just have one starter step up to make it a 5-2 trip. if that happens we come home @ 8-7 againts Washing and AZ.

Do not give up yet I think most of us are liking the approach the offense has had, the results were not there yesterday and not really Saturday but our big guys are heating up.
