Looking at it, the all-Big Ten first team is especially strong this year, and pretty clear:

Jared Sullinger

JaJuan Johnson

Jon Leuer

Jordan Taylor

E'Twaun Moore

POY likely either Sullinger or Johnson.

Yep, I'm guessing that'll be a near consensus. Probably a few votes thrown Battle's way rather than Moore. Maybe Buford?

I'd give POY to Johnson.

Agreed, pretty clear cut this year.

Freshman team? Sullinger, Basabe, Richmond, Hardaway, Craft?

I'm not sure Richmond even makes it.

Sullinger, Basabe, Craft for sure. Then 2 of Richmond, Hardaway, and Morgan

It's ironic that the year I couldn't care less about individual awards for Notre Dame - I'm enjoying the team success too much - they have a good shot at cleaning up. Ben Hansbrough was the only unanimous first team all-Big East selection, which seems to be a dead giveaway that he's going to win Player of the Year. Mike Brey is probably going to win Coach of the Year for the 3rd time.

I'd trade both those things if I could be guaranteed two wins in the conference tourney, no questions asked.

How does Kemba not win that award? I know Ben has been good, but Kemba is it for UConn.

His scoring efficiency has been pretty atrocious in the Big East season, and if the end of our game with them was an indication, it's because he absolutely refuses to pass the ball half the time. In short, he's it for UConn because he makes sure that he's it for UConn. Also, they finished in 9th place.

With regards to the Big Ten Tournament, is getting the 4th seed a disadvantage for Michigan? There were 4 teams tied at 9-9 this year. Of them, Michigan got the highest seed, 4th, and will play the 5th seed, Illinois. Everyone says that if Michigan wins, they are in, if they lose its maybe 50/50. So, is being the 4th seed and having to play another (talented) bubble team, Illinois, a disadvantage? Michigan State, on the other hand, is also said to need a win and in, and they get a near freebie against Iowa. Penn State probably needs at least 2 wins, and they get a booster against hapless Indiana.

I am wondering if its possible Michigan State and Penn State both won their 1st round games against bad teams, and then lost in the second round and got into the tourney, while Michigan lost their 2nd round game and was out, when going into the BTT, Michigan was probably ahead of both teams in the pecking order. The one thing that makes me feel better about this scenario is that Michigan went 4-0 against MSU and PSU this year, something I'm sure the selection committee takes into account.

But the question is valid, just in general with the Big Ten Tournament. I don't really think, as a Michigan fan, that they can actually win the BTT, so I don't really care if they get a bye or not. I just want to make sure they get into the dance.

Michigan would have been much better off getting the 5 seed and facing Illinois.

Seriously, though, Illinois and Michigan are in a position to get another quality win without the risk of a bad loss, while MSU and PSU are risking bad losses before they even get a shot at a quality win.

I think Michigan needs a win against a decent opponent, not just a tournament win. They're on the bubble because they may end up 0 for tournament teams this year(Clemson, Harvard, and MSU aren't locks at this point), they need wins over teams of substance.

How soon we forget about Iowa beating them by 20 at home and only losing by 19 at MSU... Advantage Iowa.

Yeah, I'd rather be the 4 than the 6. The committee won't care that you beat Indiana

OK, that's all I was asking. I remember 2 years ago everyone said Michigan had to win 1 BTT game to get in, and we beat hapless Iowa in the 1st round lost to Illinois in the 2nd round and barely got in.

I do agree TT that Michigan lacks that quality win (stupid bank shot 3 point buzzer beater by Wisconsin), but they also lack many bad losses. Their only loss outside the Top-100 RPI was Indiana, which obviously was a bad loss, especially because they lost by 19. Looking at fellow bubble teams: VT has 3 sub-100 losses, USC has 6, MSU also 1, Colorado 3, Missouri State 2.

If only "almost wins" against top 50 teams counted. Michigan would have Syracuse (by 3), Kansas (7), Ohio State (4), Wisconsin (2), and Illinois (2). :)

I was a little surprised to see Bryce Cartwright left off the media ballot.

He was Honorable Mention on the Media list, he was left off the coaches list.

WTF, Pat Forde said in his chat that he picked Michigan to win the Big Ten Tournament.

Well, they did beat Harvard, so I'm sure they can beat 3 better teams than they have all year in 3 days to win the tournament. Forde is definitely on the meathead end of the sports analysis spectrum, though.
