In hindsight, it really didn't make sense for him to leave. Can anyone think of a coach who went to a program with worse prestige/tradition, in a worse conference, with worse current talent, and thousands of miles from his home area to boot?

No, but I'd do a lot of things for $3M a year.

I think the most concerning thing was the complete silence on his part. I don't blame him for talking to them, and I don't expect him to just come out and say "oh I'm just seeing what they have to say," or anything like that. I just found that him completely refusing to say anything was kind of strange and made me a bit uneasy.

My thinking was that it was the circumstances. He was out of town in El Paso of all places, probably not wanting that drama. From what I can gather, they asked Anderson, he said no, they told his agent, and Sexton told Anderson to at least hear them out. After that, they tried to see if they can leverage it(since he's not going to go to Oregon for that money), but Alden can't afford to and doesn't want to set a precedent of raising Anderson every time someone asks about him. So Anderson waits it out so it doesn't look like he didn't get what he wanted out of the situation, and everyone's happy.

selby with that glazed look in his eye as he announces for kansas.

on another note, egwu is quietly developing into quite a beast down low and could be less of a projexct than i previously thought. he might not score 20 a game, but nobody will want to play against him.

I hope that means they aren't a player for Randle.

randle is apparently meshing very well with tracy abrams on the wolves. all 3 are playing at a very very high level right now. i have to think we get randle.

I keep reading that, plus his dad is a huge Illinois fan, plus he wants a good engineering school. Seems like a no brainer.

You're probably right, it was just my pessimism that was getting the best of me. Glad it worked out.

If he wants engineering maybe he should go to Purdue :P

(yes I realize Illinois is every bit as good as Purdue in engineering)

Grabbing Selby was huge. Puts us back in the National Title conversation, though probably on the fringe.

And effectively keeps Tennessee out of the conversation.

Has Oregon contacted every D1 coach out there yet? What a botched job search so far (obviously they can still make up for it with a great hire). I thought for sure Oregon was Mark Few's dream job but I guess not.

UK, will Enes Kanter be cleared by the NCAA?

Doyel at CBS had twittered that he had been cleared by the NCAA earlier this month, that was prob. premature as nothing certain has been mentioned.

except UI's is better.

Purdue does have a top 20 engineering program, but Illinois's is top 5. Maybe he'll go to Stanford or Cal, though.

That's how I was looking at it too. Didn't see much hope for next season without him.

That's like saying that Scarlett Johansson is every bit as good looking as Kathy Bates.

It all depends on the growth of Releford and Johnson, too. If those guys make a leap--which is hardly a stretch--we'll be dangerous. Not MSU or Duke (if Singler stays) dangerous, but we'll have a shot.

But, then again he thinks Purdue is the 2nd best program in the Big Ten all time. In front of MSU.

FYI for Indiana fans, Crean reportedly offered Jarrod Uthoff ('11) from Cedar Rapids, IA today. He's a skilled big, really skinny and probably has to add 25 pounds to play in the Big Ten. Not overly athletic but not a weakness either. His best offers previously were Arizona State (who also just offered a 6'5 SG from Cedar Rapids in the '11 class), UNI and Creighton. Iowa hasn't offered yet but the new staff met with him yesterday.

I found a blog link on this. Neither rivals nor scout has him ranked yet. Hmmm.

Yeah I was pretty surprised to see that IU offered. I would imagine he'll be seen this summer and evaluated because his AAU team is pretty solid. He's continued to develop skills. They just had a big weekend where they won a tournament against a pretty good field including Indiana Elite. He's got some good post moves and can step out and shoot the 3, but he's so weak. Here's a picture:

He and 6'5 SG Josh Oglesby had an open gym last week where Syndek offered both on the spot. Iowa, Arizona, Butler and BC are coming in to see him tonight at an open gym.

I'm no expert, but I would guess that Purdue ranks ahead of Illinois in some engineering fields. It would probably depend on which type of engineering he wants to do.

Purdue isn't even the second best engineering school in the Big Ten. Graduate or Undergraduate. I rest my case.

And without the integrated circuit he wouldn't have gotten anywhere close to the moon.
