btw, even if he played 16 games in 08-09, he wouldnt have come close to 1000 yards.

Carson Palmer also played only 4 games that season. I don't know the full situation...don't know exactly what his injuries were, or if he'd been playing through them or what, but that year clearly had some bad circumstances...and was a pretty clear abberation.

This shouldn't be surprising but Terrence Cody failed his conditioning test twice yesterday before finally passing it today.

The guy who couldn't even come up with a team to guess is far more embarrassing.

True. I didn't know the answer but guessed right.

I was almost positive what the answer was and I was right.

Other than the fact that the lady guessed a nonexistent team, and that the real team in that city isn't in the NFC, she had a good guess. Her best move was betting so little.

Darrelle Revis is officially holding out.

General manager Mike Tannenbaum, who rarely discusses contract negotiations publicly, revealed that he made two "substantial" proposals last Thursday to Revis -- a long-term offer that would've made him a "Jet for life" and a short-term offer that would've increased his $1 million salary for 2010. Both proposals were rejected Friday night, Tannenbaum said.

He didn't provide any specifics; neither did Schwartz, who said: "Darrelle's actions speak volumes about the offers."

Revis is to make $1 million in the fourth year of his six-year rookie deal. He wants to be the league's highest-paid cornerback, a distinction that belongs to Nnamdi Asomugha, who signed a three-year, $45.3 million extension with the Raiders last offseason.

On a side note, even with Revis I'm not buying into the Jets as the juggernaut being portrayed.

The Haynesworth drama is good stuff. He's not even attempting the conditioning tests at this point.

I dont get why he was made to run 3 300 yard sprints while it is normally 2 300 yard sprints. 3 300 yard sprints seems pretty excessive, especially for a dlineman.

Because they're jerking him around. They didn't want him to pass the conditioning test. This is Shanahan flexing his muscle.

Call me a homer, but I am in no way convinced they're better than the Dolphins. They might be, but it's certainly not conclusive.

JESUS CHRIST IM READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL

i've been devouring preview magazines like never before.

It must be nice being a Cowboys fan knowing you'll get all the coverage you could want with Ed Werder having been parked up Jerry's colon for the last decade.

Meanwhile the Bears get as much coverage as Tampa Bay. Largest unshared football market in the country and they have no [expletive] clue how to market th team.

Went 9-7 and squeaked into the playoffs only because the Colts quit a game they were leading 9-3 at halftime and the Bengals didn't play the final week. They started 3-0 (against Houston, NE, and Tennessee who were all miles better by the middle of the season). If their schedule was reversed, they could have conceivably lost 10 games. Their other wins were juggernots like Tampa, Buffalo, Carolina, and Oakland.

They also made it to the AFC Championship Game and were leading until Peyton went into God mode.

So they squeezed in but they have a lot to build on (if Revis plays of course). I don't think they'll miss Thomas Jones too much...they'll have Edwards for the whole year and they brought in Holmes to help out. Sanchez will have a lot more of the playbook open to him this season.

Shonn Greene is a beast, too

Haha, I like that. "juggernots." In any case, I think the Jets are a good team. They probably have the best secondary in football. They have a very strong receiving corps (when Holmes is unsuspended, anyway) and will probably be a good rushing team behind a solid offensive line. So they're good. I just don't see what they have that suggests they'll be a super bowl contender that wasn't there a year ago. I guess it's all predicated on the assumption of big improvements from Sanchez.

Speaking of which, why is there so much love for Sanchez, anyway? He was bad. That's not to say that a rookie quarterback struggling in his first year means he can't be a good QB down the line. But 54% completions, 12 TDs, 20 picks, and under 2500 yards in 15 games from your starting quarterback, and people start picking you for the Super Bowl? How does that work?

i always thought year 2 was when you figure out if a QB is going to make it or not.

also, it seems kind of weird to say that NYJ wasnt a super bowl contender, considering they made it to the AFC championship game

Well, I'm not talking about last year, I'm talking about how a lot of people are picking them to win the whole thing this year.

There's no denying they made the AFC championship game and deservedly so. However, the playoffs can oftentimes be dominated by a team that gets really hot (2008 Baltimore Ravens in the AFC championship game) and knocks out a bad team and then a team that's rested but cold. You don't disregard a playoff run, but you should throw in the caveats.

That said, the Jets were a team that narrowly missed losing upwards of 10 games last year and, accordingly, got a lot of luck. Their big offseason moves were Santonio Holmes who will miss the first 4 games of the year and Antonio Cromartie, whose biggest problem in San Diego was underachieving. They also picked up LT, who hasn't been impressive for a couple seasons now. Can he give quality carries to spell Shonn Greene (who's really good)?

They have some nice core pieces with Greene, Revis, D'Brick and Kris Jenkins. But their top WR (Braylon) struggles to catch the ball and they have a QB who wasn't really impressive last year. They open the season with Baltimore and NE and then get Miami and Buffalo. 1-3 is very realistic without Holmes and if Sanchez struggles passing to Braylon and Lavernaeus Coles. Even with Holmes back, 8-9 wins tops is extremely realistic (Minny, 2 v NE, Balt, Pitt, Chi, GB, Den all on the schedule).

The boom or bust comment is probably pretty accurate. If all goes well, they could win 12-13 games and the Super Bowl. If Sanchez doesn't develop and the FA additions don't produce they could lose 10 games. They're an interesting team, but not good enough for the hype, I don't think.
