http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/02/cubs-release-tv-schedule-for-2010.html

The release of the Cubs broadcast schedule Thursday revealed a record-low 58 games being shown on WGN-Ch. 9.

But that number could increase, depending on six games that may be picked up by ESPN or Fox. If not, they will air on WGN.

The Cubs will also air eight games on WCIU-Ch. 26, including the season opener in Atlanta on April 5. Despite the slight decrease, the 64 scheduled games on over-the-air TV are reportedly the most of any major league team.

So, this means I won't be able to watch opening day????? :banghead: :banghead: (I live in central Illinois, but I get Comcast Sports Net)

My guess is that ESPN picks up the Opening Day game.

Our Opening Days are almost always on ESPN or ESPN2, so you're probably right.

The WGN thing is ridiculous, but it means more Pat and Ron for me on Gameday Audio, so I'll live.

ESPN will black out Chicago area viewers though

MLB.TV once again for me... Cubs will be off WGN completely in the next 10 year max.

Another part of my childhood dies.

I know MLB has rules and such governing broadcasts on superstations, but listening to Harry and Steve and watching 154 games a year on WGN was one of the best memories of my childhood.

The crappy thing is I live JUST out of the range of CSN. If I were 15 miles further south I could get it in my cable package.

I still credit a large part of my being a Cub fan to watching games after school on WGN.

I sympathize with all of you that are losing games due to WGN cutting back. It's what motivated me years ago to get the EI package. The only games that it hurts me on are games vs Houston and would probably affect the Rangers games, but I'll be at those games regardless.

I think it is the beginning of the end for Cubs on WGN (not that the beginning wasn't years ago.). The Ricketts no longer have a financial incentive to keep the Cubs there. With the expanding abilities of MLBtv and EI, there is a means (albeit at a cost) for out of market fans to see the games. Furthermore, the Cubs no longer have a means to want to prop up programming for WGN.

I expect when the current contract with WGN is done, that will be an end of the games carried by the superstation.

Fans of Corner Gas will be excited.

Oh good....the only time I will get to see the Cubs is when they play the Braves. Oh swell. :glare:

Wow, so I won't see the first two games? (I don't get WCIU or CSN+)

That's flat out ridiculous. And I'm sure MLB.TV will black out those two games since I'm near Chicago.

Screw the black out rules.

WGN games aren't in HD for me anyway. I just would like to not pay for EI this year. Trying to keep costs under control.

As someone who advertises on the Cubs radio games, the business person in me likes this decision.

What's your company? I'm not in the Chicagoland area so I'm likely not a customer. I'm just curious is all.

Not on WGN 720. Our local AM station 1540, WBNL airs the Cubs games. I have my own law office and advertise on about 1/4 of the games, the radio station owner lets me pick and choose which games I'm on.

EI for me isn't HD either. So, I just won't watch anymore. Not paying EI fees for stretched SD feeds.

What a crock of [expletive].

I live 3 hours south of chicago and buy every offered sports package (including Extra Innings) every year, but I wont get to watch OPENING DAY because I can't get WCIU, but live close enough to get blacked out regardless.

Bye Bye Cubs on WGN in the near future. Good thing there is extra innings. I just hate writing that check every year.

Let's see, the only channel I get that carries Cubs games is WGN. I live in the Cubs' "home territory," so buying MLB.tv would be worthless because all the Cubs games would be blacked out. Why must I get screwed out of watching the games?

I don't understand how it's so complicated to find the areas in the Cubs' home territory that don't get CSN Chicago and take them out of the blackout zone.

How realistic is it for the Cubs to ever end up with a YES-type channel?

Wasn't it already announced at the Cubs Convention?

Don't know if it was announced at the convention (wasn't there and didn't read a whole lot about it) but ever since it was known the Cubs were being sold and through the whole process with the Ricketts, it has rumored that the Cubs were interested/looking into starting up a YES type network.
