ESPN already reporting that Air Force and Boise St are unlikely to accept the invites

lol...so the Big East just started randomly going Oprah on schools?

You get to be in the Big East! And you get to be in the Big East! EVERYBODY gets to be in the Big East!!

I guess Boise wasn't keen on how lousy the conference would be (plus the travel), and AF is cold on it since Army and Navy won't be in it

Apparently the Big 12 told WVU they were in and then went back and said "nevermind we want to check out Louisville first."

What a conference.

Geez, it's not like Kansas State is going to let just anyone play in its conference.

West Virginia officially to Big 12.

The Big East is down to what, five football teams?

Most importantly, they're joining next year. My guess is the Mizzou/SEC announcement comes before Deaton goes to India on Tuesday.

This seems pretty likely.

Out of curiosity, you were really pissed at aTm for leaving and thought it was a BS move. Are you backpedalling on that, or do you see MU leaving as more justifiable?

I was angry at aTm for deciding that they were angry with Texas and freaked out over something they agreed to. They've been part of the problem voting block all along with UT, OU, and Nebraska, which makes their stance even more hypocritical. Since aTm started leaving, we saw OU and Texas try to take off too, and thankfully the very thing that ticked off aTm(LHN) kept the remaining South schools from joining a pod of the Pac-16. Even in the immediate aftermath of that, I still wanted to make the Big 12 work, especially since UT and OU seemed open to making some concessions(because they had no recourse). When those "concessions" turned out to be a double edged sword(Sure, we'll share Tier 1 & 2 better as long as you let us steal more games for our Tier 3 Network!), and when it came out that Mizzou actually had an option, I had a bit of a change of heart. I know many will see it as the same thing, but considering how differently Mizzou and aTm have voted on conference measures, there's no little brother sentiment like with aTm, and the events that happened between aTm bolting and Mizzou exploring their options, I think Mizzou taking their chance while it presented itself is more understandable.

All that said, I'm still not as jazzed about the SEC as most of my Mizzou compatriots. But I like going to the East better than the West, and seeing that the Big 12 as we know it is no longer an option(TCU? Really?), it's resigned me to the fact that it's the best decision.

People can say Missouri doesn't fit with the SEC because it's not in the South; but Missouri was a slave state. So, by my lights, it makes historical/regional/geographic sense. All due respect and all.

Nor do I find it hypocritical for Missouri to have complained about A&M's actions and then yet also leaving for the SEC. The Big 12 was viable before A&M left . . . it became much less so when you subtract A&M and replace it with a school of the, um, caliber of TCU (not to mention that Texas and Oklahoma almost left -- and still could leave at any time). Missouri merely reacted to a situation before things possibly got out of hand and left them without a landing spot (and the SEC is one of the top-2 landing spots).

So with West Virginia leaving, it leaves Rutgers of all teams as the ONLY football school that was in the conference in 2003.

2003 Big East football members:

Boston College - Gone to ACC

Pittsburgh - Gone to ACC

West Virginia - Gone to SEC

Syracuse - Gone to ACC

UConn - Was in 1-AA in 2003

Temple - Gone to MAC

Rutgers - Still in Big East

You are correct - Missouri might be predominantly Midwestern culture, but there's still a lot of Southern culture and dialect in it (even stretching from the east end to the west end around Joplin). A good hour+ south of St. Louis, sure, but it stretches from the east (adjacent to Cairo, IL) all the way to the west end past Joplin. That's circa 330 miles in width complemented with the southern 35% of the state. Southern culture and dialect is a far second in the state, but they're moreso a unique variation to the SEC rather than an outlier (which they're definitely not IMO). There are a lot of roots in common, just depends where in the state you're looking.

I am from SE Missouri, 100 miles straight south of St. Louis. The culture is very mixed in that area but is definitely "southern" starting just 30 miles south of us. Also, Missouri was neither slave nor free. It was a constant debate that was never really settled. As a matter of fact, we had two governors during the Civil War, one confederate and one union.

There is a large portion of people that follow SEC football more than Big XII football in that area.
