Off the top of my head, soccer won the conference outright a couple years back too.

OK, maybe he was just drunk.

In other news, saw this on SI.com and got a chuckle.

What was the nation's happiest city Thursday night? College Station, Texas. A stable Big 12 means Baylor no longer has any reason to threaten a lawsuit against the SEC for taking Texas A&M. This paves the way for the Aggies to pack their bags and leave the dysfunction behind. Texas A&M will be that sibling that marries up and then spends all his time with his wife's family. And who can blame Texas A&M for that? The Big 12 is the type of family where the reunions end with someone waving a knife and screaming "I'll cut all of you!" as the police pull into the driveway. In the SEC, they spend their family reunions in Destin, Fla., counting money by the Gulf of Mexico and then watching their wives spend the windfall at the outlet mall across the street from the hotel.

Had a friend tell me last night that Missouri has not won a conference championship in any sport since joining the Big 8. Is that really true? I have a hard time believing that.

No, it isn't.

Softball won the conference just this past year and in 1997. And won the conference tournament in 09 and 97. And men's hoops won the tournament a few years back.

That might be it though in the Big 12.

Conference tournament wins are not winning the conference. C'mon, dude.

That's why I specified who won what. I don't consider them the same thing, but teams still get trophies and call themselves "conference champs" when they won the tournaments.

Only when those teams never actually win conferences. See: Iowa.

A shot at Iowa basketball? That's kind of weak.

Does the big 12 count the tournament or the regular season though?

It's insane how good the B1G is at wrestling. There was a point a couple years ago where 10 of the 11 schools were ranked (I think MSU was the exception).

First school that came to mind that hasn't won a regular season championship in a while, but won two conference tourneys.

And hung a banner for them.

Technically, aren't they conference champs since they get awarded the auto bid to the NCAA tourney?

Not according to the Big 10.

Really? I honestly didn't know that the winner of the conference tourney wasn't considered the champ. What's the point of the tourney then?

Money.

That and a last second opportunity for a bubble (or worse) team to make the big dance.
