so wait is missouri in the big ten yet?

I don't know. I graduated from a Big Ten school and technically am a drop-out and homeless. I am typing this from the local library with the help of a 2nd grader.

Rumor is that the SEC turned down WVU. I do not like this.

Another rumor that they're eyeballing Tech. Or maybe they prefer MU to WVU, which makes sense to me.

I think that's why TT doesn't like it.

I'd blow a homeless man to get into the SEC right now. As long as we're in a real conference, I'll be happy.

See Minnesota - things are looking up for you already.

Iowa State ahahahahahah. What in the world does that pud school/athletic program bring to the Big Ten? They'd be nothing more than a place-holder, a seat-filler at the conference award show when Ohio State or Michigan or Nebraska gets up to pee.

(And, because I know it's coming, as an Indiana fan/alumnus, I'm thrilled we already were in the Big Ten because we're basically Kansas -- with less recent athletic success -- and Kansas very possibly could be left without a seat.)

I keep hearing WVU rumored for the SEC and have no idea why. They bring nothing beneficial to the conference, except a good basketball program (for the SEC).

I know you hate this idea, but if Va Tech isn't interested (and I see no reason why they should be with the ACC expanding) then Missouri is the best school for the SEC to add. Brings the St Louis/KC markets, is a solid football program, and would be one of the best basketball programs. Mizzou is a far better option for the SEC than WVU, USF, Louisville (none of these three bring anything), or anybody else I've seen rumored.

To me too. I'd be thrilled if the SEC pulled Virginia Tech, but I just don't see that being realistic. If Tennessee keeps improving, I think you could see a Tennessee/Virginia Tech rivalry form pretty quickly.

Pitt and Syracuse can't contractually leave the Big East until June '14 and the Big East - unsurprisingly - is holding them to that. I'm guessing a quicker exit will be negotiated somehow, but that's the news for now.

Notre Dame is the only school I want the Big Ten to add at this point. If you get them, then Mizzou is probably the best option to get to 14. As has been mentioned, there's just no scenario for the Big Ten to get to 16 that makes any sense.

RT @McMurphyCBS: Multiple Big East sources said they have been told by WVU officials that WVU rejected by ACC & SEC

Ouch

Their academic situation is very bad for a flagship institution. They use to have a very good experimental psychology program, but we've decided to stop funding rat labs in this country.

I'd like to see ND in the B1G along with Pitt. Both have almost good enough academic standing. The also have natural geographic connections to the rest of the schools. Pitt/Penn State could become a great rivalry.

PSU fans have been begging for that rivalry to come back ever since PSU joined the B1G.

I like how academics are somehow a factor in this. The only reason stuff like that gets brought up is when a school can't generate the $$$ for a conference. If the same exact school as WVU was in NYC, it wouldn't matter what their academic ranking was because they'd be bringing the $$$ with them. What a joke. I find it hard to believe that WVU is a worse school than Mississippi State or something like that.

Pathetic

Academics bring in more money for a school than TV contracts do. The relative difference between schools doesn't really matter, but if a school fails to meet a certain threshold, it matters. I think it was Mandel that tweeted that the SEC turned them down because they don't bring any TV eyeballs, and the ACC turned them down over academics.

Pathetic

What's pathetic? ND's sense of entitlement as if they are anything more than a glorified liberal arts college who is living on dead legacy?
