Makes great sense. We now have the east coast from NY to DC locked in. Penn State gets some east coast rivals it's been pissing and moaning about for twenty years, and we're raiding NDs new home. Now, what gets us to 16?

Maryland having to pay $50m to leave b/c ND just joined is hilarious.

Also...Maryland?

I don't really get Maryland or Rutgers for either side.

Right. ND is just dying to get into the big x.

I don't care anymore. I hope they enjoy their new semi-ACC status. Maybe there will still be some teams left in that conference once their agreement expires

If adding those schools lets the media companies treat them as if they have a significant representation in the NY and DC markets, the B1G should absolutely add Maryland and Rutgers. I don't know why media companies would do that, but I'm not very good at understanding why they make the decisions they make.

Not if Jim Delany has his way, apparently.

You don't care. That's why you say [expletive] those guys when everyone knows ND isn't and wasn't on the table for the big x. You don't sound scorned at all.

UVA and ND would be the ultimate pipe dream, but I think we'll take a good long look at BC to grab Boston. We'll see.

That would be great, actually. Take BC and Maryland out of the ACC doesn't hurt football or basketball. ND can find a game in the NE every other year.

I'm surprised Maryland would give up LAX though.

Why would they give up LAX? Since there's no Big Ten for lacrosse, can't they just go independent?

Don't know much about Maryland, other than it sucks and produces horrible people. But NY essentially ignores Rutgers unless it makes it late into the season undefeated. This would have to be something where they are thinking longterm and getting promises out of Rutgers to rebrand itself or something. I guess having Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Nebraska and a couple other brand name schools show up to High Point Solutions Stadium (yeah, that's what it's called and I had to look it up just now, does any other conference school play in a similarly horribly named stadium?) could peak some more interest, but it's going to take a while. NY already does have a fairly strong presence from other big ten school alumni.

So in the last 24 hours I've heard rumors that UNC, Virginia, and Georgia Tech could come to the B1G as well. Rumors are fun.

It's basketball, but OSU plays in Value City Arena, and Louisville plays in the Yum! Center.

I wouldn't be surprised if FSU and Clemson joined the Big XII soon. The ACC and Big East might as well merge.

Why wouldn't they go to the SEC? Maybe the SEC doesn't want them, but it would seem to make more sense geographically.

I think the SEC would shoot higher than those two. There's just been a lot of smoke about FSU and Clemson joining the Big XII since the summer.

Stuy would know better, but I've heard that UF and USC would try to block FSU or Clemson being added to the SEC.

That and the fact that the motivation for adding schools is TV markets, and the SEC already has a full grasp on those markets save for the actual cities involved(which unlike MD and Rutgers, are not large). I would think that if the SEC tried to expand, they'd aim for UNC, UVA or VT, or maybe another Texas school(although none make immediate sense).

I've heard this as well.

That's the only possible rationale. The TV market thing makes sense in theory, but in practice I'm skeptical. Not to mention that I think either school dilutes the league/brand (meaning, even if the TV market thing is true, I'm still not sure I'd want to add them). Penn State and Nebraska made sense on various levels; this leaves me feeling that the Big Ten is selling its soul.
