no interest in the thread? it's the coaching search thread, dummy, it's not just about whatever scrub coach ND will end up with (though if they take Kelly, they'll be doing better than I thought.)

Actually, yes it is. There's a separate thread for other coaching vacancies, "dummy".

"This is not trolling, this is keeping it real." should be an after school PSA.

i guess you could say that i have to be "the voice of reason"

I'll watch if you get IMB! to direct and exec-produce it.

We don't need a playoff. This season is an aberration in terms of how many undefeated teams are left before the bowl season.

There were 3 undefeateds before the bowl season in 2004 as well.

Regardless, why is "undefeated" the salient standard? The same issues apply if there are one undefeated and multiple one-loss teams, or no undefeated and multiple one-loss teams, or no undefeated and multiple two-loss teams, and on and on and interminably on.

You're right only Charlie fell on his face.

2 BCS bowls and 3 bowls in 5 years (eligible for 4 bowls). He's going to be working as an NFL offensive coordinator next year and could easily be an NFL head coach someday.

I get that you don't like ND and want to enjoy a little schadenfreude, but you have a very unusual definition of people falling on their faces.

16-21 in the 3 years where he started getting away from having all inherited players at Notre Dame is certainly falling on your face. At least after you guarantee that you'll out X and O everyone in the nation.

this has been covered in multiple threads. you don't know what you're talking about, so i'm not going to explain it again.

So he wasn't 16-21?

This is a good point.

So once in five years something like this happens. Doesn't mean we need a playoff. I mean people can't even agree on the playoff format, but people still want a playoff. We already have a playoff it's call November. I think Florida will beat Cincy, and one of Alabama/UT and Boise/TCU will lose, meaning at best there will be 2 undefeated left in FBS. I can live with that, even if my team doesn't win it.

I used to buy into the playoff talk, but the more I thought about it the less it made sense to me.

in 2008-09 there were 3 undefeated teams, two of which didn't get to play for the title (boise st lost to tcu, utah beat the #4 team in the country).

in 2007-08 a two-loss team (lsu) was arbitrarily selected over a bunch of other two-loss teams to play ohio st.

in 2006-07, one-loss florida played for the title over one-loss michigan and one-loss usc, while boise st finished the year undefeated after beating oklahoma.

i could go on and on. i'm not sure how many teams from non-bcs conferences have finished undefeated - either boise st or tcu will this year, utah did last year, boise st did in 2006-07, utah did in 2004, etc) and none of those teams have gotten a chance to play for a championship. the system completely shafts non-bcs conferences and arbitrarily chooses teams to play in the "championship game" - see one-loss florida state playing for the title over one-loss miami in 2001, with fsu's only loss coming to miami, and miami's only loss coming to one-loss washington. the system is awful.

Doesn't change the fact that we will never see a playoff system in Division 1 A.

i'd be willing to bet that within 10 years your prediction will be wrong.

Not as long as the current system is profitable to the NCAA, BCS etc, etc. Nobody can even agree to the right setup for a playoff system.

My guess is Red Flash would be singing a different tune if Alabama lost to Tennessee and had to watch a Cincinnati/Texas title game.

Yep, anyone from the SEC is gonna love the current set up. I love the whole this system makes money. No crap, you think a playoff wouldn't?

Nope, but nice try. When Alabama wasn't even close to sniffing the BCS, I still was against the playoff system. A playoff system is a copout by lower teams as they find excuses as to why they shouldn't join a bigger conference.

That's right, BCS conferences plead for schools like Utah and Boise State to join their conference, but they stubbornly refuse and beg for a playoff instead.

I don't know this for sure, but the ADs have to look at all of their sports. Sure it might be great for football, but can they afford to travel with the smaller teams?

W/E. All I know this constant complaining and whinning about the lack of a playoff system is beyong annoying. Until the viewership drops, and the BCS/NCAA, etc, etc,etc begins to lose money, then the playoff system will never be given anything more then a token topic to talk about it. And I am fine with it. So all this debate is pretty much moot.

Isn't the whole point of adding a BCS Title game a few years ago to have a definitive champion? There would be no point to having a title game a week after the other BCS bowls pitting #1 vs. #2 if some other team could end up champion

I'm amazed they haven't come up with something yet just because of the money grab it would be. And to say nobody has a format is just asinine. 8 teams, 3 games, you have a winner. Pretty simple. Keep the bowls and have 3 games after they end. The current extra game plus a 2nd semi and then a championship game a week later. 1 more week, 2 more games to make money off of and the whiners about the student athletes can shut up because they'll be done before classes resume.
