Anyway, the Bush/Mayo thing will bear fruit for you at some point and you can pretend its some great act of justice when all anyone really cares about is that a program you don't like gets punished--after all the only time people like the NCAA is when its sticking it to hated teams.

Also OK St is not being punished, Dez Bryant is.

I'd say losing the team's best player when OK State had a chance to be as good as they've been in a very long time would qualify as the team being punished.

Meanwhile, still nothing about Reggie Bush or O.J. Mayo.

The NCAA is a crock of [expletive].

I remember those devastatingly harsh penalties placed on Notre Dame immediately after the Kim Dunbar scandal.

And by devastating I mean 2 whole scholies pulled and by immediately after I mean 2-4.5 years after the fact.

2 more schollies than USC has lost for much more severe offenses, BTW.

And by "2-4.5 years after the fact" you must mean "less than one year", because that's the actual truth.

The allegations were from 1993-1998. The investigation was opened in January 1998 and the punishments were handed down in December of 1999. That's nearly two years and you're looking at 5 years of alleged malfeasance. Let's not act like the NCAA was swift in its actions.

It's not even just that. Michigan got a 'letter of inquiry' this week regarding those practice-time allegations, which of course is a good thing, but again, it's the NCAA moving quickly on something relatively minor while we've heard absolutely no news on Bush/Mayo in forever. And I hate Michigan MUCH more than I could ever dislike USC. It's just completely backwards and counter to everything the NCAA claims to stand for.

1st let me say what is happening to Bryant is wrong. I do want to point out the difference again. What Michigan did/didnt do was a top down violation. Bryant was an individual doing something separate from the team that was proven that he did wrong. Also, the NCAA did not suspend Bryant or any player, OK St did. I am not saying the system is right or correct, but if Michigan is found to be breaking the rules as a top down from the team they will be put on some kind of probation. The situation with Bush and Mayo is also more of a renegade player than a team wide lack of control, unless there are many more other players involved. Maybe that is what the NCAA is investigating. I am sure if no other players are found to be involved, then USC would only face a small probation. If they still played for USC and USC let them play(not suspend them) then the school would be facing more actions against them.

Our offense isn't very good. I was talking about our defense dominating you guys. KU only got six points on our starters, i wonder how much you guys will get..

I've heard rumors that refuse to go away, and I hope they're not true, but Tennessee might come out in black jerseys for the South Carolina game on Halloween.

I'd prefer that we leave that gimmick to schools like Georgia, who actually have black as a school "color".

I don't have an issue with wearing black jerseys, I just don't really get wearing non-school colors. It seems odd.

It's a money grab. My experience with these "alternate uni's" like the blackout jersey, etc, etc, is that it usually doesn't have the desire affect on the opponents as the coaches staff/school would like. I don't know if I like the idea of the "black" jersey for Tennessee, but Auburn is going to introduce the "Navy Nightmare" against Ole Miss, and all of these jersey gimmicks just makes me go #-o  .

Black jerseys rarely don't at least look cool, but Tennessee's orange tops are among the best in college football and it sucks that they'd pass on wearing them.

CNS is going to tell them they can't.

This joke is getting really old. It almost as if you are channeling the old JasonHart from the ESPN boards with that joke...

I think that it's purely a recruiting tool. Again, I'm not saying it's going to happen, but there are several who feel that recruits would go crazy for it if it does.

I'd prefer the orange jersey as well. I wish it were the only jersey UT ever wore.

So VT apparently isn't all that good. Too bad for the ACC, who don't seem to have anybody good this year.

ETA: Ga. Tech, maybe. I guess.

Is anybody really good this year? Florida doesnt appear to be as good as last year. Texas no, PSU no, USC no, OU no, OSU no, Alabama same. Oooooh Iowa, ooooh TCU, ooooh Boise, ooooh Cincy.

An 8 team playoff would be really good this year.

This would be THE perfect year for it.

Again, I still don't understand the reluctance to a playoff system. So many people have said "well the powers that be who control the Bowl games don't want this to happen". Well why the hell not? You can keep "the bowl" aspect of it. For example, have the Cotton Bowl be a quarterfinal, Rose Bowl be a semifinal, etc. I guarantee you more people would watch a bowl game if it meant something. So I don't know why the promoters of the bowls would have a problem with something that would give them MORE viewers.

Because a major part of the bowl system is to get hordes of people to travel to a destination and spend money in that destination. If the bowl games were not the final game of the year, and there was a chance your team would go on to another bowl game, lots of people would skip out on travelling, especially to the first round in hopes of spending their one trip on a more important second round or final. Also, you couldn't really guarantee more viewers.

KSU's Defense > KU's Defense

Well, KU's offensive line isn't exactly a "physical" offensive line. It's more of a "finesse" offensive line, and it shows on the running game.

K-State is 2nd in Big XII with a 4.3 YPC, and averages 176.5 a game. Kansas is 11th in Big XII with a 2.2 YPC, and averages 60.7 a game. That's a full 2 yard difference there.

Of course, Kansas has a better passing game than K-State does, but I'm not too concerned about that if K-State has their running game going, their passing game will be effective enough.

Either way, I hope this game turns out to be a good game for both teams.

a half empty Cotton Bowl for a #1 Florida vs #16 Ga Tech quarterfinal game would make for some depressing Cotton Bowl officials

I don't think there's a chance it'd be half empty. If Ole MIss/Texas Tech in a meaningless game could pull 88,000, then Florida/Ga Tech for a chance to advance to the semi-finals of the playoffs would draw that many or more.

Bowls are events. It's the final game of the year, it's an exotic locale, it "means something" even if it really doesn't. Do you think a lot of NFL fans spend money to go see their team on the road in the divisional playoffs?

I know it's unpopular but I still like the 'regular season is a playoff' thing. Though I don't like the BCS system - there's got to be a better way to do it.

I'm guessing that the title picture will sort itself out.
