Fox only gets to show 1 game on Sunday.

Is that for this week only, or is that for the whole season? I didn't think it was always like this.

It changes week to week. Sometimes CBS is the station who only gets to show 1 game and sometimes its Fox. But the maximum number of games a market can get combined between the 1 and 4 pm time slots is 3. Both stations are not allowed to show doubleheaders in the same week.

Joniak's call was just used in the Miller Lite commercial. Does anyone know what play it was? Some sort of tip and a TD. I thought it might have been one of Mike Brown interceptions in 2001.

I was wondering that too.

I also found it interesting that they chose to use Joniak instead of Laravee. And they're playing it during the Packer games on the radio, too.

I wonder how many Packer fans understand who that is :)

I doubt many. I don't know of any of the visiting radio commentators except Laravee because he did the Bulls and Bears.

I wonder if Joniak's call was just a made up one? I can't think of any games where the Bears won it by a tip at the end except Brown's two in 2001, and Laravee did that call for the Bears.

This means nothing but Larivee has been the Packers announcer since 99'. Also I actually listened to that Bears/Browns game on the radio and I thought it was the same guy who does Bears games now but I have no clue on that one.

Laravee has been with GB since 99. Man, time flies. Must have been Joniak on the Bears/Browns call.

Understand who? Larrivee is awesome and I know who Jeff Joniak is. They're both real good at what they do.

I guess living near STL pays off for once during an NFL weekend.

UMFan,

I just read the week 2 thread...since I was in STL for the Cubs-Cards game on Sunday night so I didn't get to follow the thread live.

Your posts are just entertaining as hell. Highest of highs, lowest of lows. Heh.

Making Lovie Smith's postgame press conference about a tough loss at the end of the 3rd quarter, and then saying your pessimism is getting better at some point in the 4th.

Just great, great work, my friend.

Chicago is a 2.5 point favorite right now. I think I'd have to give the points.

But it sure would be nice if Olsen stopped sucking royally, kept his feet and held onto the ball this week. Cutler's INTs and Forte's lack of yardage have gotten the headlines, but nobody has talked about how disappointing Olsen has been this year after all the hype that he would be the leading receiver.

If Wallace starts at QB the Bears should win this thing by 10 or more. I never bet on games, but f that line doesn't get much higher than 5 during the week I might take the Bears and give the points.

I'm interested to see if playing 4-3 defenses will change how Olsen and the whole offense play. I'm trying to withhold judgement.

interesting little nugget, but I just saw and met Stan Thomas former first rounder of the Bears at my gym. Very nice guy, does anyone old enough remember from, i believe from 91-93?

I think the Stan Thomas drafting was the beginning of the end of the Ditka era. He did not want Thomas anywhere near the Bears but Mike McCaskey (maybe?) drafted him anyway.

Olsen has had at least 3 drops that could have extended drives. Of course, one he got absolutely drilled trying to catch. But he has been disappointing.

While the bar I watch non-televised Bears games is a Charger bar, about 60 Steelers fans have become weekly regulars at this place. It felt good to be outnumbered by about 50 people while the Bears pulled off a victory.

Unfortunately, while I felt confident that Cutler would be way better in this game, I did go into it feeling like we wouldn't be able to win. I'm happy that my prediction was wrong.

As much as I despise Hunter Hillenmeyer, I felt like he did a fairly decent job on Sunday. I was also dissappointed in the refs when after they called the Bears for a lame personal foul, Hillenmeyer was held when the Steelers running back broke free for that long gainer. Hillenmeyer wasn't just being held. He was being mugged.

Other than that, I was really pleased with the game overall. I'm still concerned about the lack of a running game, but I was happy to see Peterson breaking some tackles for some decent gains.

On a final note, that other Adrian Peterson (Minny) is kind of good.

What bar is that, BigbadB?

It's difficult to get a table in San Diego in a decent bar when the Bears play a late game parallel to the Chargers unless you show up for the early games (blech).

I'm surprised about that given the number of transplants in San Diego. Of course, it's a lot easier in LA since there is no team here. Plus, there are at least 2 Bears bars I know of in LA.

Realistically, you aren't going to get very good seating if you only go for the late game when the Chargers are playing. This place has great Bloody Mary's, though, so I don't mind getting there at 9am. Oh, and free Chorizo and Eggs for breakfast.

Ha! Those in So Cal should get together and then they could all get on me - The resident Seahawks fan. THis week will be a long and anxious week in Seattle. I would be shocked if Hass plays this week. Remember, he was out for most of last season with a back injury and regardless what they say, the hit from Willis was directly on his lower back. No way that a rib injury is the only outcome from that.

As to the Run D of Seattle. I think that you will be surprised. So Far The Seahawks have faced Steven Jackson and Frank Gore. To rate a defense based upon what they do against 2 of the top NFC rushers (ad 2 top 10 rushers in the NFL) would be shortsighted. However, both games the Seahawks were undermanned, but to face Gore without 5 defensive starters is asking for a beating. To lose 5 defensive starters, The entire O Line playing backups or out of position, losing your QB for the 2nd half and only lose by 13? Not that bad...

Depending how Lofa comes back this week and if Walter Jones can come back they will be better. If not, it will be a hard fought game. I still think that Lawrence Jackson and Patrick Kearney can get pressure but the problem will be that Curry won't be able to pass rush if he has 2 backups playing along side him. Likely Curry will be Forte's shadow all game if Lofa is out.

Regardless, it will be a good game. Unfortuantely, I wont be able to see it other than on my computer but oh well...Once the seahawks win I can at least come here to feel better! :P

Man, if that line stays close to that I'm going to have to put a sizeable bet on the Bears when I get to Vegas Friday.

Olsen has been targeted 12 times in the first two games. For comparison sake, Bennett has 15 targets, Knox has 13 and Hester has 11. For all the talk about Olsen being Cutler's favorite target in the preseason, it hasn't panned out that way so far.

He's being game-planned for by defenses... As is Hester... If that continues to leave other guys open, I have no problem with it.

Agreed. Until the defense determines that the receivers are a bigger threat than Olsen or Forte, the linebackers and/or safeties will continue cheating towards Olsen and Forte.

Bennett has been getting open really nicely and Knox is not only a deep threat, but it's looking like he has the potential to be really good at picking up huge yards after the catch. The development of those two should open up Hester and Olsen more, while also freeing up Forte on the ground and through the air. Cutler has a really nice compliment of offensive weapons at his disposal right now. Just need the offensive line to give him enough time to make the offense work.

Is Matt Forte not one of the top RBs in the NFC and NFL now after two games?

He was arguably not one of the top RBs before those two games.

Agreed. However, it's difficult to really determine where running backs fit on that type of scale when you factor in their respective offensive lines.

Watching Monday night football, I was really impressed with Ronnie Brown, but I was more impressed with the Dolphins offensive line. Give the Bears that offensive line and Bears fans would be in heaven.
