If there's a conclusion I've drawn about the Bears in the first two games this season, it's that Ron Turner is not a good NFL OC. He doesn't seem to know how to draw up plays that take advantage of his best players.
It took you until two games into this season to realize this? That's like somebody just now realizing that Aaron Miles isn't good at baseball.

Turner has never had a good QB, a good RB, and good TE's in the same season until this one. He doesn't really have the excuse this year that he has been able to fall back on in previous years....that he didn't have the tools to field a good offense. He does this year...even with mediocre WR play. It's not that I haven't had my doubts about Ron Turner. I think it's just proven that the excuses (admittedly, not given by him, but by defenders of his) don't fly.

The Seahawks injury report is pretty lengthy...

Mebane

Hill

Jones

Spencer

Branch

Tatupu (no practice)

Hasselbeck

Houshmandzadeh (no practice)

Fisher

As a 49er fan you're welcome.

Looks like they're going to play the "will he won't he" game with Hasselbeck right up until the game -- force the Bears to prep for both QBs.

Can't blame them. I'd do it too.

If you were going to withhold judgment until you saw what he did with talent this year, I don't see why you'd conclude that he's bad after two games. One game the offense moved the ball decently in a hostile environment but Cutler made dumb throws/WRs screwed up routes/fat guys made amazing plays that kept them from scoring a lot. I'll give you that they should've run the ball more in the first half because of how Cutler was struggling. In the second game, the offense did a pretty decent job against a pretty damn good defense, Troy or not. Not sure how, if you were going into this open minded, you'd deem him bad after these two games, especially after the second one.

Personally, I think he's fine. The reason our offense has been anywhere between meh and bad the last few years has been crappy players, especially at QB. The reason it will be better is because we have a good QB who is going to make everybody better and allow some of our players to show their strengths. I don't think the OC matters all that much (barring extreme cases like a moron like John Shoop) and I don't think there are huge differences among WCO offensive coordinators.

The few times he has had decent quarterback play, the offense has performed well. 1995 with a healthy Erik Kramer and 2006 before the Arizona game showed everyone that all you had to do was bring some pressure to make Rex completely lose is mind.

I mean, it's not like we've ever had elite offensive talent (even now, we're only elite at one position and even that's apparently debatable to some people). We've pretty much always had crap. Sometimes better crap than others, and a few decent RBs along the way, but yea.

It wasn't that I was completely withholding judgement. I'm not pretending I haven't seen years past. If this was Ron Turner's first two games as Bears OC, it'd be different. I guess the only difference I see from previous years to this year is the pass/run play balance. I don't see him using the 2 TE set especially creatively, or doing much to get his best players open.

It's only 2 games, and I'll admit if I'm wrong about it as we move on. But so far, I'm unimpressed at best.

Well, I mean, Des Clark was a big part of that 2 TE set. So that's kind of screwed. It remains to be seen if Kellen Davis is actually any good and if they can go about it the same way with him...

Except the Bears are only gonna prep for Wallace so it doesn't matter. LOL at you Jim Mora.

How much does a team really have to prep for Seneca Wallace?

He is more mobile than Hasselbeck. So you at least have to prepare for that much.

This is probably where the downgrade from Urlacher to Hillenmeyer would most be noticed. Urlacher can beat the crap out of mobile QBs, Hunter will not. They will have to scheme.

Worried about it?

It would kind of suck to get Wallace, then watch him beat us with his running all day.

Not worried, not anymore than most games. This is the first one that I'm expecting a win. It would be a very disappointing loss.

Yeah...especially with the number of injuries that Seattle is dealing with. I'm actually thinking we win this by more than a TD.

I'll just try to feed off your confidence then :)

I worry too much.

The Bears aren't going to lose this game unless they have a boatload of turnovers. Considering the state of Seattle's defense, that's not likely.

I'm actually thinking that the 4 INT's in week 1 will end up being a bit of a blessing in that the Bears will be a little more careful handling the football than they might if they didn't have a 4 INT game.

Carter fined $5000 for the hit on Olsen.

http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/news/story?id=4500632

"Unreal," Carter told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "They said I led with the crown of my helmet. I watched the play over and over again, and I hit him in the shoulder. I didn't hit him in the head.

"So I don't know. Ask the league. Of course, I'm going to appeal. I'm not going to let them just take my money just for nothing."

Both players wers slow getting up after the play.

"He was a big-target receiver, he's like 6-6 or something like that," Carter told the paper. "Here I am 5-9. How am I going to hit a guy 6-6 in the head? And I got hurt on the play [bruised thigh]. It's crazy. But that's what they said and that's what they fined me for, but I can't let that stop me how I play the game."

Somebody needs to explain that leading with the crown of the helmet, has nothing to do with hitting him in the head lol

i'm not a huge fan of the "hit on a defenseless receiver" rule, but they need to actually make an example of someone at some point for leading with the crown of the helmet. they need to suspend somebody for 4 games for the first offense and 16 games for the second. there's not much i hate more than a safety running around with his head down at everyone. bob sanders made a career of this.

How fitting that he doesn't even realize what the league is talking about. I'm guessing the Steelers don't see the need to inform their players about the rule and what it means to violate it.

Maybe the Bears aren't, either. I don't know. I think they probably should. Here's a guy going around, spearing players, not even realizing that it's against the rules, or even what the rule means.

I thought Carter's hit was clean. I thought he led with his shoulder and he threw his forearms out in front of him. Looked like the helmet to helmet was on the follow thru to me.

Even if you're right about that play on the sideline, Carter definitely led with his helmet on the tackl of Olsen when he ran down the middle.
