He entered the NFL at the hight of my obsession with sports cards. I didn't really follow college football so I had no idea who he was, but I pulled a rookie card of his that was book valued at like 60 or 70 something dollars and from then on I followed his career and become a fan.

What a shame.

This really sucks. He was one of my favorite players when I was casually into football.

RIP to one of my favorite players of all-time. You had to admire the guy's toughness and ability to still perform at a high level even when he was extremely banged up.

I'm stunned. My brother has been a huge Titans fan since he started following the NFL in 1998 and McNair was his favorite player. He still wears his jersey during Sundays. This is just messed up. Found dead on July 4th. What happened? Robbery, infidelity (CBS says a female was also found dead) or something else.

Damnit to hell.

McNair was one of the toughest players to ever play football and fun to watch playing. I hope they nail the SOB that did this by ever inch the law required.

What a crap day.

They are saying this might be a murder-suicide involving his wife. If so, wow...

Nashville police are confirming that a murder-suicide has claimed the life of former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair.

McNair was found shot to death in an apartment in Downtown Nashville, according to NBC affiliate WSMV.

Police said a female was also found dead at the scene, but they have not released her identity.

No other details of the murder-suicide were immediately available.

Hopefully it's more Phil Hartman than Chris Benoit.

Either is horrible but yeah...

I read on gotitans.com that the woman that died was Asian.

BTW, sorry dew :(

I'm really sad. A lot sadder than I maybe should be. I wasn't a Titans/Oilers fan. I followed McNair, but not any more than most players that I followed. But he was very good QB that could have been much, much better had it not been for injuries. Easily would have been a HOF if he could have played a few more years healthy in his prime.

I take away from his career just how impossible it was for him to get where he was. He went to Alcorn St. A historically black D2 or 3 school, and was the 3rd pick of the draft. Granted we've seen perhaps the best WR and RB ever come from HBCs (Rice, Payton), but to be picked 3rd and the first at a position that has had very few black players even play, let alone star at that position, is nothing short of amazing and a testiment to how truly talented he was. The fact that he lived up to that draft pick is even more remarkable.

R.I.P. Steve McNair.

Thanks UMFan. This is really sad.

McNair was easily my favorite player in the NFL through my teen years and into my 20s. One of my favorite all-time players (along with Peyton Manning and Walter Payton) and, in my opinion, one of the best QBs of this generation.

I hope the murder-suicide rumor isn't true. WBIR is usually pretty accurate, but they're the only source reporting it right now.

McNair was definitely one of the toughest players I've ever seen and was one of the primary reasons the Titans are a legit franchise.

It's always sad to hear when someone is gunned down in the prime of his or her life, especially someone as good-hearted and well-liked as he was.

The double celebrity death trifecta is now complete.

David Carridine, Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett

Michael Jackson, Billy Mays, Steve McNair.

Let's hope this is the end of it. There's a lot of decent people on that list who went way too young.

In college and maybe even before that McNair became a mentor and father figure for Vince Young. Heard a lot about their relationship while Vince was at Texas. Seemed like just a great and genuine person.

The second to last play of the Rams-Titans Superbowl was about as exciting as football has ever been for me. The way McNair pulled that play out of his arse was absolutely unbelievable.

I remember being at college at the time and we were all like what the...when he shot up the pre draft board and it was who is this guy? guys from schools like this dont gather THIS much excitement. 'Air McNair' dude lit people up and we couldnt wait to see what he could do. I really really liked him as a qb. He was a bad ass.

I was researching some sports blogs for my internship and saw this on one of them. Holy hell. The blog I found it on called it a double murder, but...it's not an official news source so IDK how trustworthy it is.

Police have confirmed that Steve McNair suffered several gunshots, and Kazemi died of one gunshot to the head.

"The medical examiner will be conducting autopsies tomorrow," Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said. "We expect to make additional conclusions after the autopsy process."

Update from the Tennessean. Sounds like murder-suicide with McNair as the victim.

That entire ending was superb. From Denard Walker tripping to allow Bruce to catch the eventual game winning TD to McNair throwing off Mo Lewis and Kevin Carter to complete a pass to Mason on the second to last play and then Dyson coming up a yard short to end it. I wish the result had been different, but that was a great ending.

We wouldn't have gotten nearly that close on the final drive without McNair.
