He pretended to not speak English, when we all know he is easily understood in English.

He is?

Certainly spoke it well enough to do hundreds of interviews about hitting HRs with Big Mac in 1998. I have the "Home Run Chase" VHS at home if you want me to send it to you.

I don't think baseball been very very good to me would work in front of the buffoons in Congress.

Failed post. Sry.

I can't fathom that any Cubs fan is remotely surprised by this but at least now there is a more solid confirmation aside from "he refused to speak English", the Rick Reilly incident, etc.

So be it. Who is next?

Why don't they just release the whole damn list from 2003. Seems like these sportswriters are obviously trying to milk it by leaking these names slowly. That's bullcrap. Just release all the names and be done with it. Jesus.

Shocking.

Hmmm.....where are the Sosa apologists?

Yeah, I figured there'd be people reveling in this.

It shocks me that someone we cheered so hard for got turned on so quickly, even before this came out.

So he left early on the last day of the season. Who [expletive] cares?

I'm not saying he was in the right when he took the PED's, because he very obviously wasn't, but to rejoice in it is in bad taste, IMO.

My Sammy autographed baseball and pennant will still remain among my most prized possessions.

So is this thread going to get as heated as the Sosa Retiring thread, seeing that now there is evidence?

I doubt many were arguing that they'd be surprised if it was true. People were arguing that there was no actual evidence against him, which there wasn't.

Sure there was. Circumstantial evidence may not be proof, but it's evidence.

They can't release names until people leak them. You think some sportswriter is sitting out there with a full list and is sitting on it rather than scooping everyone?

Sources are trying to milk it. Sportswriters would give their left nut to release the whole list in one shot.

Sammy Sosa was an excellent ball player who is hated on by buffoons who don't appreciate what he did for the Cubs organization.

Probably just because it validates their opinion in a long-standing argument. If you take major pride in the art of pointless online arguing, this is exciting news.

I'm interested in seeing if there'll be any response to this from the Sosa camp.

I'm not part of the 50% of people on here that are lawyers, so let me know if I'm wrong, but this is leaked information, that is supposed to be anonymous. What is the harm in Sosa denying any of this is true? It's his word vs. anonymous lawyers, and I'm sure the court of public opinion is going to favor the nameless lawyers, but if he can convince even one person otherwise, what's the harm?

It doesn't particularly bother me. The sport failed, everyone was doing it, move on.

But I'm glad we don't have to hear that there was no evidence against him any more.

You won't miss the photo essays with captions like, "SEE?!?! He wasn't really that much smaller back with the Rangers!!!"

This is my "I'm shocked" face. Sosa was still freakin' awesome. His AB's were one of the few reasons to even watch the Cubs for a while there. I can't just forget all the positive feelings he gave me as a fan, even if he did make the (common at the time) mistake of steroid abuse. He still has a great place in my memory.

It's really disappointing; it was nice to be able to play ignorant and say there was no proof, but in the back of my mind I knew better. If Sammy admits his mistake and apologizes to the fans I see no reason not to forgive him.

I'm not shocked, and nor do I care about this. It will affect his chances getting into the Hall no doubt, but I could care less. The guy helped revive baseball in 98... steroids or no steroids. I enjoyed the ride. But being shocked at this news is like being shocked that Lord of the Rings wasn't based on a true story

I assumed as much. I've always said gun to my head I'd say most any player was on some form of illegal PED at the time. I don't have the energy to care when a guy is outed. Only thing about it that brings any emotion out of me is pity for the AAA guys who didn't take PEDs, and lost out on money and part of their career because of guys who did. Everyone else, whatever.
