I was thinking about this the other night, and I just saw a similar piece on MLB.com.

My question is this: If you could pick any one position player to build a new team around, taking all factors into consideration, who would it be?

I'll list my top 5:

1.Albert Pujols - He's the best offensive player in the game, he's a good defender, and he's still young enough to build around.

2.Hanley Ramirez - He's dynamic offensively, and while his defense isn't great, you'll be getting outstanding production from a position where it is a bonus.

3.Evan Longoria - Young, great hitter, great defender.

4.Miguel Cabrera - A great hitter who I think can still get a lot better.

T5-David Wright/Ryan Braun- Braun has a little more offensive upside, whereas Wright is a very good defender.

I'd probably choose one of Evan Longoria, Hanley Ramirez, Tim Lincecum, Albert Pujols, or David Price. I really like Zack Greinke too, but it's difficult to say whether he's finally turned it on, or he's just had a hot month.

I'm a big Adrian Gonzalez fan (before this weekend. He would have lessened this had we not swept) and I think he could be added to this list.

Just throwin' it out there.

My top five would probably be Pujols, Hanley, Longoria, Sizemore and Wright.

It depends on how I can build the rest of my team. Unless I had access to a lot of other good players, Pujols isn't worth it, because the team won't be good until he's in his 40's, I mean mid 30's. It would be nice to benefit from all the hype surrounding whatever records and milestones he's going to reach, but I think you have to take a younger position player.

Another strike against Pujols is that he plays 1st base which ought to be an easy position to fill. That givers the edge to younger players at positions of higher demand like Ramirez, Longoria and Sizemore.

This question always reminds me of Mike and Mike talking about the now former president- he was asked this in an interview about two years ago and said Chase Utley because of the offense you get from him playing a good 2B.

His pitcher to build around was Roy Halladay.

That's why I included Sizemore in my top 5. He's not as purely productive as others (Braun for instance) but he's close enough to them, he's young and you get that production in center field where it's incredibly hard to get much of any production.

I thought about Utley, but it's hard to justify building around a 30 year old when you have younger options and he's not the best player in the game.

Evan Longoria

Hanley Ramirez

Grady Sizemore

David Wright

Miguel Cabrera

If Cabrera could still play 3rd he'd be on the list. He's closer probably to not even being able to play 1st with his expanding waistline.

How long will they be able to keep Ramirez at SS?

Has to be Longoria. The age difference between him and Pujols gives him the edge. And like someone said above, it's probably more than the listed five years.

Pitching-wise, I guess I'd go with Lincecum.
