Because I don't want the Favre crap cluttering up the Bears thread anymore....

Brett Favre's friend J.D. Simpson says only the quality of the Vikings roster has kept Favre's meandering through the maze of possibilities. "If this had been a year ago, bang, he'd be in Minnesota right now," Simpson said. "I think this decision is tougher for him than any of them. He really sees Minnesota as a legitimate team that can go all the way. I think in his mind he was retired, but the quality of that team makes this a tough one."

J.D. Simpson? sounds a little too much like another football player.

He's a combo of O.J. Simpson and J.D. McCoy. The result is Tim Tebow.

For the love of god just retire, man.

I would think him playing in Minnesota makes the Bears chances of winning the division better.

It's truly amazing that Favre is actually contemplating showing up @ Lambeau field this fall in a Vikings uniform.

I'll bet fully 40% of Packerdom abandoned him after his move to the Jets last year. I still see Packer fans wearing those "Temporary Jets fan" hats and Jets #4 uniforms. All over the place, actually.

I know of several Packer fan friends who removed all pictures, memorabilia, etc. from their houses having to do with Favre after that betrayal.

There was a chance that time would heal those wounds.....but now, if he joins the hated Vikings??

Now he's going to show up at Lambeau, throw a TD pass or two, celebrate like the ass that he has always been.......right in those fans' faces?

Man that is just stupid. 20 years from now he might not be able to survive 10 minutes in that town. Is that really worth a solitary 11-5 season in Minny, for fans who face it don't give one damn about him beyond one shallow season's worth of football?

Favre might be a great QB, but he's a moron. He can't see the forest for the trees. He's probably got the smallest amount of big-picture perspective I've ever seen in a human being.

Jim McMahon played 2 years in Green Bay and he's not exactly putting his life at risk when he shows up to Wrigley Field or any other Chicago establishments. They aren't the same player, but Favre obviously built up a lot more equity in Green Bay than McMahon did in Chicago. He hasn't said anything negative about the fans, just guy who ran him out of town, just like a lot of ex-Bears bad mouthed the McCaskeys.

Then again, unlike McMahon, Favre shouldn't be in a position where he as to make appearances in Wisconsin to make a living. Time will absolutely heal the wounds. There will be tons of fans at his HOF induction, and he'll be worshipped whenever he walks into Lambau.

I don't know man. Do you have any Packer fan friends? I mean some of these guys already hate him with a passion. I was surprised at how quickly and fully they turned on him.

If he goes back into Lambeau, it'll be out of spite -- he's going to Minny to stab at the Packers. One last hurrah to show them how wrong they are.

I mean it's a long, sharp drop from where he was 2 years ago. His first move split the Packer fan base in half. I think this one will destroy any he has left.

The Packers too.

You're a Packer fan, right Flames? Are you one of the "Temporary Jets fans" guys, or one of the "I removed all the pictures of Favre from my walls" guys?

Well, Favre was basically the whole reason why I became a Packers fan. I couldn't hate the guy even after the stunt he pulled last year, but now it's just getting ridiculous. I have to admit at the end of last year, I was rooting for him to fail because I was tired of people hinging the blame on Rodgers for why the Packers were 6-10 when Rodgers was having a much better year than Favre could ever imagine of having.

I can't stand the guy now because it's apparent this guy only cares about himself and the grudge he holds against Thompson. I'd love for the Vikes to sign him.

I wouldn't call him a moron or a selfish jerk or anything like that necessarily, I just think he is a jonzing addict.

No...

This goes beyond that. Joe Montana going to KC was a jonesing addict. This is anger, spite, revenge. This is "I'll do anything to service my vain desire to prove you wrong at any cost."

I don't think so. My girlfriend is from Green Bay and thus I know plenty of diehards. Right when he signed with the jets there was about half of "packer nation" that hated him and the other half that still loved him. I was actually at the first preseason game and it seemed like half of the stadium was still wearing favre jerseys. Everyone else was either wearing a Favre jersey with "Favre who" written on the back or some other packers gear. By the end of the season though it seemed much more like the group as a whole (at least, those I knew from GB) had let it go and were still proud of all the great years he had in GB. Hell, the packers were planning on retiring his number this year. I really doubt the scars are still that deep.

If he went to the Vikings, they'd hate him for a short time but they'd get over that, too. Hell, Ron Santo ended his career on the southside and look at how he's responded to here.

Favre will be fine. That city loved him far, far too much to ever completely turn on him.

That said - he still needs to retire.

Ron Santo was traded to the White Sox, he didn't bolt town and sign with them. He even said his time on the southside was the worst time of his life. But about Favre, this is just getting ridiculous. He's acting like a diva just like Clemens did. If he wants to play for the Vikings because he wants to play football, then they should bring him back. If this return is all about wanting to stick it to the Packers, then they shouldn't, because guess what, there are 14 other games that need to be played

Posted
The Santo analogy is no good because the Cubs had virtually no chance of ever having to play the White Sox. Favre playing for the Vikings would be like Sandberg playing for the Cards and winning a WS and then going all Mark Grace afterwards to stick it to his former team.

That is certainly an interesting take on the Favre-Packers situation. Certainly not based in facts, but interesting. What does the bolded part even mean??? The Packers front office pushed him out and were pretty darned vindictive in doing so. It was worse than how the Cubs front office throwing Sammy under the bus, because Favre hadn't committed the transgressions that Sammy had.

If it is the case that he comes back with the Vikings and "unretires" it will be the case that he had to go through this whole "retiring" charade thanks to the Packers front office and the anti-trade clauses they put in when they traded him to the Jets.

And Roast, in 15 years someone should tell you should retire from whatever job you have and that you can never do it again. I hope he's healthy and if he wants to play and someone wants him to play for him that he plays. Every athlete deserves that chance, even guys like Bonds.

Way to completely ignore all of Favre's "will I or won't I" waffling. The Packers made a decision because Brett wouldn't! They couldn't wait around and wait and hope that maybe, possibly, Brett might wanna play. There was plenty done wrong on both ends, but lets not make the Packers out to be the villian and Favre to be blameless here.

Posted

Way to oversimplify how it went down. Could Brett have handled it better? Absolutely. It sure would have helped after the past two seasons he said look guys I don't know I need time. Or better yet, when the media non stop asked him for the past five years about it he said something to the effect of hey, I'm not talking about that. My team will know anything first, etc.

But that error in handling it by Brett, did not warrant how things were handled by the Packers front office and crazy Ted Thompson. Thompson was looking for an excuse to get rid of Favre from the beginning of his time there and ended up making it as messy and nasty as he possibly could.
